Show ON THE TRAIL OF THERABIES, STILL Gov. William Spry and Dr. T. I). Realty have joined in a letter to the department of agriculture at Washington, D. C, requesting that a quarantine be established against bringing into Utah dogs from the states in which rabies has been noted. This includes Idaho, Montnnn, California, Washington, Oregon nnd Nevada. It In understood that each of these states will make similar requests, thereby restricting all dogs to the states where they are at present. This action is n result of the recent national health convention' held at Salt Iike City last week. It is expected that the secretary of agriculture will direct the bureau of animal industry to put the quarantine in effect. When it was pointed out to Dr. Really that A. A. Callister, secretary of the board of sheep commissioners, had said that it would be impossible to move sheep in the spring without the aid of dogs, the head of the health department said that arrangements unquestionably would be made to establish on the borders a period during which clogs accompanying flocks would be held to determine deter-mine whether or not they were Infected with the rabies. Dr. Beatty stated it was not intended to work a hardship upon sheepmen, but thai the quarantine was considered necessary for the good of Uiq Hlipcj) interests as well as that of the general public. Agreeable to the request of Dr. T. B. Beatty, state health commissioner, com-missioner, G, A. Iverson, assistant attorney general, Is preparing n model dog license ordinance whlclfhe recommends to towns and counties for adoption ns a measure of precaution against rabies. ThO ordinance provides for the quarantine, inspection nnd muzzling muz-zling of dogs when necessary to prevent the spread of rabies. |
