Some families make it a point to invite the teacher into their homes occasionally, to a meal or a pleasant social evening. Others ask them to go for an auto ride from time to time. As a result the teacher feels that he or she is in much closer harmony with the entire community, that their work is being appreciated, and they strive to do' still better work. Parents who drop in at the schoolhouse their child is attending are always welcomed. Such little visits encourage the children and also indicate to the teacher that the in every way posvisitor is anxious to sible to advance the educational system of the community. It is quite a business to raise a family of children, or even a single child If parents and teachers work along purely independent lines and never consult together, they are apt not to work for the same ends. A little More cooperation would help very much. Some of the teachers who are away from home feel rather lonely at times and wish for more friends and a little social attention. In view of th? fact that in their hand3 rests a large part of the childs welfare it would seem to be only an obligation fulfilled to see that this is provided them. The hot days we have been longing for are on hand, or at least they have been with us in sufficient number to cause considerable discomfort. But those who realize that it takes warm days and warm nights to mature vegitation and to make crops and gardens grow, are not complaining. None of us want to pass through a famine, and that is about what would happen to us if Old Sol failed to warm up during July and August. Its a little hard on us, of course, but look around and youll see that the citizen who suffers least in summer is the one who refuses to lose his temper and who will not let himself become agitated over trival matters. Kep the head cool and youll keep the whole body cool. An irritable, complaining person never knows what it is to be comfortable in the summer time. Just try smiling and refuse to frown and fuss, and sec how quickly you forget all about the heat and its attendant annoyances. Why is it that it tickles a man to learn that the husband of the girl who turned him down gets drunk and beats her every night? Dont brag about your ancestors. Oil and mining stocks, for long years the favorite wares of the fake salesman, are still being pushed to the limit But now catch schemes are. being sprung that appeal to those who realize the vastness of the automobile field. Unnecessary and worthless accessories are being offered by these smooth talking salesmen who could sell palm leaf fans to the Eskimos if they could get to the North Pole. Promoting the companies" for the manufacture of auto is also a favorite stunt just now. Of course, as the salesman pictures it, you cant help but get rich if you dabble in anything that is connected with the automobile field. They cite Henry Ford as an example. But they dont tell anything about the hundreds of once wealthy Americans who have lost all they had in the automobile business. They dont tell you that of the four hundred and fifty makes of cars started up in the United States in twenty-fiv- e years, only sixty are still being made. You-maexpect to be approached on the streets any day by one of these high powered solicitors for some get rich quick scheme. No matter how good it looks, go slow. The girls who insist on having a big church wedding will probably also want a packed court room to witness the divorce. They used to talk about the eart before the horor, but times have now changed and they talk about the quart before the hearse. We would want to know if there is anyone around here who ean remember when they used to vaccinate a girl on the leg so it wouldn't show. Beginning its educational work in a mo-Liadobe building while Salt Lake City wa little more than a village, St. Marys academy has ever kept jiace with Utah's capital in development and progress. As the demand for a school of higher education, modeled after the principles that had endeared St. Marvi to the people of Utah and surrounding states, emphasized the need of such a school, upon reaching its golden milestone St. Mary a determined to supply the need. This it accomplished by adding to it academy and grade school, a college department, twq yean of which are already established, apd the third and fourth of which will bo added in September of this year.
