(Bill) llischel, the pathfinder for the Sqlt Lake Tribune, appean to have lately experienced a change of heart, ae it were, towards the Oeean to Ocean highway and other things in which all the people at all timea do not agree with the gentleman. Last Sunday a issue of that newspaper published logs from Soldier Summit to Grand Junction, Colo. In connection with two mais is this mention: "The Midland (rail entering Salt Lake City through Southeastern Utah ia one of the state s important highways. It serves tourists coming to Utah from Colorado points, Oklahoma and TeH- - While this route is on the federal aid system of Utah, the road has not as yet been brought up to the standard. From Sunnyside Junction to Moth Junction there is only a graded dirt road. This is good driving in dry weather, but causes considerable trouble in wet. The road ia graveled from Price to Sunnyside Junction and from Moab to Thompsons. This route ia used to reach the oil Helds in Southeastern Utah, and for this reason enjoys considerable local travel. The state has set aside considerable funds for new bridges and uon which it is expected construction will begin soon. It is the intention then to construct a modern gravel highway np to federal aid standards as soon as funds permit. A new np to dste strip map of this section appean herewith. Motorists wishing to use the route should clip this and aave it for future use, as it will not appear in print again nntil 1927." Kelter of Ileiner, known to about every man, woman and ehild throughout the Carbon district and a resident here for close to thirty years, is a candidate for sheriff. Ilia name, at the urgent request of friends, will go before the democratic nominating convention when it convenes in the near future. He in the past has served the eounty in this rapacity three different terms and hia record in office is as clean as a whistle. For the last four years he has been in the service of the United States Fuel eumpany as a peace officer and is one of the best thought of emiloyes working for that big eoncern. lie has excellent judgment, a thing quite necessary in the handling of the very many perplexing problems that come up to one in that position, and knows just how to meet them. Also his acquaintance and experience in the work in the past makes him a thief catcher and a terror to the evildoer. "Tom" ia now in Texas visiting his old home, but will be back here inside a few days to meet and greet friends and acquaintances. HELPER FANS GETTING AFTER LOCAL FOOTBALLERS HELPER, Aug. 14. Football followers of this town are asking for a game with the Carbon high aa one of the teams to le played here this fall. llelier people have never had a game Ijn their town and as the Carbon school ia a eounty institution they feel as if they are entitled to at least one contest a year. It is thought that the Helper Chamber of Commerce will back the movement and guarantee the money for a game. Kupt. D. C. Woodward of the eounty schools, Prof. G. J. Beeves of Carbon high and Coach (Stubby) Peterson have all expressed themselves as lieing in favor of the movement. DENVER, Colo., Ang. 17.-- The Denver aud Salt Lake (Moffat) road today was sold at a receivers sale to a reorganization committee for (MN), the upset price fixed several weeks ago by Judge Samuel W. Johnson. It was conducted at the Utah Junction shops of the line by Special Master Class. The bid of the committee, which consisted of Gerald CL Hughes, Lawrence S. Phipps, Jr and Alexander Berger, representing the stockholders and bondholders of the road, was the only one received. It has been in the hands of a receiver, W. B. Freeman, for more than five years. With the completion of the terms of the sale and the transfer from the court to the reorganization committee the road will brcome the holder of a fifty years contract for the use of the Moffat tunnel now under course of construction. The Moffat was built by David II. Moffat and serves t lie northwestern section of the state with its big coal fields and farm lands.
