KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 15 Last week's deeline in prices togeili-e- r with general rain in the pasture area eut down receipts of eattle today and the market ruled stronger with sjhUs higher. Fully 50 jwr cent of the arrivals was grasxfat classes and Stockers and feeders and this left the tart that showed any dry feed ciniarativel'- small. The choice kinds were scarce. Since the middle of last - week hog prices have advanced steadily. Today V gain was fifteen to twenty-five cents and the general market is on a 12.(10 basis. Sheep and lambs were steady at last weeks decline. Receipt today were 12.0IMI cattle. 11,-- 1 0JKI huirs and 5(MMI as ciiiuiured with 15.000 cattle, 10,000 hogs and 5000 sheep a week ae and 15.725 cattle, 0675 liogs and 9450 sheep a year ago. Good to choice fat cattle were very scarce today and the few here that showed any material amount of feed ruled strong and spots slightly higher. Good yearlings and choice medium and lightweight steers sold at (10.25 to 111.00. Nothing prime was available. Most of the plain to medium fed steers brought (8.50 to (9.75. Grassfat sold at (4.50 to (7.25. Grassfat cattle in the average were only plain to fair in quality. The movement of pastured eattle is getting under way, and while the first shipments have arrived they are not sg good as those that will come later. The medium to fair-- y good classes of cows and heifers were fifteen to twenty-fiv- e higher. The other classes generally steady. Fed heifers and mixed yearlings were also scarce. Veal calves and bulls quite stead v also. Though fifteen to twenty-f- requires the exclusive use of purchrtd sires in all live stuck breeding operations. The improvement of farm herds and flocks under the better sires plan is esiecially marked in Kentucky, where County agents have made the work one of their imortant projects. Olliers similarly aetive are Ohio, New York, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Vermont, Pennsylvania. South Dakota. California and Iowa. The new participants owned upward of eight thousand head of breeding stock exclusive of about twice that number of sultry. Numerous educational fea tures. including the distribution of bulletins aud pictorial matter on ani- mal breeding, are an imiHirtant art of tbe work and establish a ound basis for future improvement through projier matings and general knowledge of breeding jirineiples.
