Show FRIDAY, FRIDAY. THE 8 UN, PRICE, UTAH EVERY PAGE SIX STILL ANOTHER PRODUCER IS CONING SOON TO PRICE THE BIG CARBON DISTRICT AGENCY COMPANY Egildson Brut, the diamond drilling contractors, were recently commissioned to do a lot of work on a new coal pruierty at Scofield for the Superior Rock Springs Coal eumiany of which li. C. Merchant of Ogden ia general manager. The rig was shipped to the property a few days ago. This is the first time for years, it is said, that a Wyoming company has entered the Utah fields for the purpose of operating in this state. It is understood that the jmiperty acquired by the will be thoroughly prosjierted before the actual work of oiening up the mine and equipping it for steady production is undertaken. It is Hie expectation that the drilling campaign will involve the sinking of many holes, so that the entire tract may be thoroughly explored before the site of driving the main entry is determined UMn. The imtential value of the ground, it is said. 1ms been sufficiently proven to insure the success of the undertaking, so that the drill work is lieing done tlmt no mislakes will lie made when the actual owning up of the measures is coniineuced. The entry of this Wyoming concern, therefore, signalizes the launching of another big mining and marketing enterprise in the Carbon district. Su-lieri- or ROCKDUSTING COMING TO BIG WYOMING PROPERTIES . Wyo., Oct. 6. ROC.v SPRINGS, Thousands of miners in six eatnps of the Union Pacific Coal romiany will work under less hazardous conditions g in the future as the result of a program being entered into by that concern. The towns and camps affected are Rock Springs, Cumberland, Hanna, Wintou, Reliance and Superior, ltockdusting is used to reduce the explosion hazard, being effectively used at the present time in the Illinois fields, company officials say.- - The dry mines will receive this treatment first, the Derations oj idling in the Cumberland, which are .in a gnseous district The llanna properties will lie the second to lie dusted and then those at Wintuii will receive treat incut. The Rock Springs holdings will lie among the last, as they have more water in them and are liracticall.v gas free at present It is said that tlie inauguration of this gigantic safety precaution probably will be completed within the nest year, but that application of the dust would be eoiitiuoua in order to keep the measure in effective working order. The rock dust for the entire project will lie pulverized in Rock Springs, several shale dejKisits of extremely low silica content being available in this vicinity. A large crusher-lious- e ia being built here. A carload of machinery arrived this week and is being installed. The capacity of the crusher is four thousand pounds of the finished product an hour, and officials of the eoinimny say that this will he kept going night and day in order to supply the demand. No dusting has been done in any of the holdings at llanna or Cumlierlnnd, though some exiierimcntal treatment has been done in the Rock Springs district with adobe dust. Under the system which has been worked out barriers of troughs filled with rock dust are to lie plneed in the entries and at different points on the slopes in such a position that a heavy jar will dump the dust into the air, reducing any floating dust to a mixture and fulfilling ail explosion to t very small area. Within the room entries and on the slopes the timbers, floors and sides will lie covered with the rock dust so that should a small explosion start it would not spread. rock-dustin- - , high . J. CHENEY & CO., Toledo, Ohio States Smelting, Refining and Mining company the owners of the United States Fuel would have made a substantial showing of profits in the first eight months of this year, say the Boston News bureau. Cheap fuel oil in the West glutted bituminous markets and a recession in general business militated against anything but medionre results from its Utah snbsidary. Production in the first eight months of this year of 435,421 tons of coal was 57,154 less than in the same period last year. This was an average of 54.427 tons monthly as against 61,572 in 1023. Measured against rated caacity of 1,500,000 tons a year, this reduction spells re stricted earnings. Notwithstanding these adverse far tors the smelting company was heljied out by rising silver prices of the past three months and a steady market for lead of eiirht cents a imund. In the ight months to Septembw 1st, consolidated earnings after interest charges of $3,252,883 showed an increase of $518,872 or more than 18 per cent over the same time last year. Thia is the largest eight months' prefits for five years. In line with its policy of libera reserves it sets aide for depreciation, depiction and amortization $1,431,733 or 40 ier cent of consolidated profits, approximately the same iiercenfage an in 1023. After the period 'a dividends on the 486,350 shares of 7 per eent prefeired of fifty dollars par, final earnings amounted to $666,234, equivalent to $1.95 per share on the 351,115 shares of common sbiok. This compares with a net of $1.43 per share in the same time last year, and of these profits $1.43 pef share was famed in the h Geo. E. Nelms first five months of 1924, singular to note the tame amount as in the eight mouthe to September 1, 1923. ' Thus United States Smelting barely breaking even in its coal department earned at the rate of almost three dollars per share on its common after charges and reserves, in the eight months just reported. With silver now selling above seventy cents and ounce; with output from its Mexican mines running a hundred thousand tons of ore a month against under ninety-thre- e thousand tons last year, and with a definite though tiny improvement in the eoal markets, the smelting conqiany is in fair way substantially to augment eight months profits in the balance of this year. sup-Mis- OCTOBER NOTRE OF tONTIKT 020258. ot DE-partm- at ar mu nee Here is the Kind of protection every man should have ot 5 SILVAGNI MOTOR CO.
