Among the new buildings now in use or ready for the fall term the me which bhould be mentioned first is the new jimior high school ut Price the llardiiig school. Located on t he Central school grounds this is a most welcome addition to the houxing for the pupils of this city. It will relieve the congestion heretofore existing in the other schools particularly up at the high school building where the seventh and eighth grades have been located because of having no other room available. For the immediate future one of the nine classrooms in this new structure will be used by the board for an office, the clerk and the county superintendent holding forth here, moving out of the present temporary quarters in the basement at the high pvr-Lup- H achool. At Winter Quarter! a new building of five'rooms is in service, llenier lias a new structure of four classrooms. Watt is, where no previous school facilities were available, has West a new four-roobuilding. Hiawatha ia supplied with a new three-rooachoolhouse. Four classrooms on the ground flour, with an assembly room in the second story, comprises the new building at Sunny-sidBuilt alongside the old school, to which it is connected in such manner as to make the whole practically a single structure, the modern features of the new rooms contrast sharply with the older classrooms. The big assembly mom is calculated to he divided into four grade rooms at some future time, hut its use for school functions in its present condition lias already become so much a part of the achool life thut the need for the big m m e. front basement as a residence for the janitor and his family. Peerless is supplied with a new building of two rooms. At Storrs three rooms have been added to the existing structure. The liulapp school is augmented by having two rooms fitted up in the basement of the building, ued for the first time during the term. llclicr has four rooms pir-cadded to their building. Kcpairs and changes jmrtieularly in the heating arrangements have been made at other schools over the Mines At Haim, (WJ County, COAI lu general the towns and cuiuis are now all pretty well fixed for school buildings except at Columbia. This new city, with its firct school year just closing, has the pupils assembled in a tent, and this will he torn down as whim as the term closes. Unless some arrangement can he made county, for ocruanry at least temporarily of some of the buildings belonging to the oerating company, the board of education will be sorely pressed to eare for next terms scholars. Castle Gate has a building built only a few years ago a good one. Hiawatha has an adequate structure almost new and well adapted to the needs of its pupils. Then there is the South Side school at Price, built just before the present building program was started. Bains and Latuda also have buildings ut up withimthe last three years. Running for the full term of the seho)l year was a little difficult because of a shortage in the school funds. This was accomplished through the artion of the board in borrowing a little money in anticipation of tax collect ions. This proctire has in the last Wn criticized by the state auditor, hut he offered no alternative course except to close the schools before the end of the term. Carbon countys board preferred to keep the operation up to the full time and it is believed this course meets the full approval of the taxpayers of the Steps toward assisting the wives and families of the men who were killed in the Castle Gute mine disaster on March 8th, last, were takeqat a meeting of the trustees of the hundred and ten thousand dollar relief fund held at the state capitol in Balt Lake City Tuesday. Keyser said that he was prepared to recconimend that thousand dollars lie inseventy-fir- e vested in Lilierty bonds, that five or ten thousand dollars be placed in a checking account at Price, so that it would lie available for distribution, and that the remainder lie derailed on time certificates in banks at Logan, Ogden.
