Show I Better Reading Program Seen I PARK PAUK CITY CITY- The most Important skill that can bo be Imparted impart l to students is tho the skill of reading Tho The ability to dread read is la of or vital importance to the I academic success of or today's eIn stu dent In order to keep pace ho must read rail rapidly Idly and with a aI ai I i i degree of or understanding In order I to accomplish these goals tho the schools of or Park City are arc in the process of set setting ling up a 11 program that will give greater emphasis to I reading i il j l For or Better Detter Readers Headers 1 With results of or toots tests given la In previous years ears along with tests I given ghen this year an and with the teacher appraisement of or the student student stu dent it Is the intention of ot the district to secure materials and develop techniques of or instruction that will further aid all the students students stu stu- stu dents denta in becoming better readers I Mr Morris Rowley Howley Coordinator of Education from the State Department DC- DC of Public Instruction Ins observed teaching in all the I rooms of the Marsac School I checked results talked with the individual teachers and then met with the Superintendent Marsac School Principal l Mr Wilde and the faculty as aa a group and die die- 1 cussed techniques for carrying forward the program I The tests given in the inter inter- intermediate mediate grades indicated that about 70 per cent of the students I read equal to or above the national national na na- na lIonal Norm I Remedial Program ram ramI I I Mr Rowley stated that after visiting the various classes and checking test results result he was very impressed sed with the quality ot of teaching through all the grades and the high level of reading ach lie Ile stated the tho record of r achievement would be difficult to match The faculty is now busy studYIng studying studying study studY- ing materials and techniques and have shown a good deal of Interest Inter est and enthusiasm for the pro pro- gram The high school under the supervision su an- U pervasion of Mr Woodbury an and Miss Gertsch are developing a remedial reading program for the Eighth Grade The object of this course cour will be to aid the slow reader in developing better read ing ins ability I |
