Show Opinion pace June 20, 2003 The Summit County Bee Page A2 Tell Me About It INCOMPARABLE BY II ON SIMISII K Thut's whal the world is saying about the efficiency displayed hy American forces in the recent Iraqi War. It ended so quickly and . so completely. . uh. if you cun really say that it has ended. Although officially declared over, the shooting and mayhem in Iraq seems to contin- ue. Another recorded 52 or so American servicemen dead, many others wounded, ulso many continuous engagements with very active Haalh parly troops and Fedayeen nuts shooting up the place, they're acting exactly like a war is still going on in Iraq. The notable efficiency of our American war machine was something to behold, comparable in complete destruction to possibly only the total effectiveness of Mormon Crickets making a sweep through the countryside. And it's possibly second only to the unparalleled mastery of eating habits. Wlinl the school cafeteria's cadre of cooks lake hours to prepare, the teen-ag- e caters are able to devour (no. it's more like they inhale the food) in a matter of nanno-sccondWhile truly a breath-taking- , unbelievably swift ending (?) to a frightful war, it unfortunately has not uncovered the reason given for its occurrence. No 'weapons of Mass Destruction have vet been found. Disappointing? Yes. Predictable. . . cr . . uh. well, it had me (and a lot of others) fooled. I certainly thought the evidence given hy our 1 1. The guy I really feel sorry for. of course, is the one person ( m my view) whose opinion you could go to the hank with Colin Powell. Did the fable him as the palsy to present the case (the documentation they gave hint to present) which they - in the bucks of their minds hoped they didn't have to buck up? Or were they stretching some proven clues they thought would prove think-tanke- not-quil- e factual later on? True. Saddam was a and he did some horrible things to his at rat-fin- own people; along with atrocities to thousands of other humans. Hut, with all his skullduggery, cruelly, lies and deceit, was our officials pipe-lin- e of info cbout this tyrant lactual and piovcn? Did it rise to the height of the justification of WS billions spent in the assault, and many more SSS billions to repair the damage and reconstruct the Iraqi country into a democracy or whatever? I mean, considering the justilicalion ol the war was mainly to prove Saddam was manulacturing and, in tact, had a stockpile of WMD's! let's hope that the old political saw of, ". . . voplc i ally around their leader in limes of crises. . ." is not a convenient and salable ploy to use on ihc eve of America's elect a sdiedule. It's the eve ol that lime again, and I sinceicly Impe the reasoning ol those who susecl these tvpes of vibes are embarrassingly wiong. This brings us front-an- d center to our current President of the United Stales of America, who has become a study of how a common, ordinary citizen of this country with an 'average' education und l.Q. can continue to ride the crest of popularity as he pulls off some amazing multi-facete- d major policy decisions while experts continue to downplay his intelligence by concentrating on his speech peculiarities. While the world is watching und wailing to see how this scenario plays out, my opinion is that even if we Americans are proven wrong in the reasoning behind why we made war on Iraq, the positive humanitarian results which are sure to follow will even the score. And it appears to me that the trump curd will be - as it always has been - that it's a known fact that America will always be available to "pul Ihc touch on. by bank-rollin- g virtual- country on this planet. I'm thinking that, as upset as other friendly nations' become, I've always said, it is so nice to lake mini trips to the mountains for a camping trip even if it does only last a short lime. Such was the case this past weekend when my hubby and I loaded up the camp trailer and took off lor Wyoming and one of our favorite spots to camp. Our effort was certainly rewarded by the wonderful green of the trees, the colorful flowers (although they also kicked up the allergies), and all the water we viewed. specially (lie water since Utah seems to be in short supply. Another email told Ihc story of a group of graduates who found a unique way to follow their heart and a special goal. Uccausc they could not pray due to a recent court ruling, the speakers gave I- - inspualional and challenging speeches but no one mentioned divine guidance or asked for blessings on the graduates or their families. The ending speaker walked pioudly to the microphone und stood still for a moment, then delivered his speech- - an astounding SM.LZL! The rest of the students rose immediately to their feel, and in unison they said. "God bless You."
