Show 2A The Summit Comity Boo Friday, Novombor 8, 19W Pam's Place The chance to vote. in the 1996 election process came to a close on Tuesday, with approximately 60 percent of the residents of Summit County turning out to voice their opinions. If you voted for President ' Clinton, then you were happy long before the usual amount of time it takes to check things out, as some people I talked to knew who the President would be before they even made it to the voting booths. It has hem speculated for a long time that the race'would be a landslide so not many were surprised with the results. Disappointed maybe, surprised no. When I walked in the fire station to cast my vote, I ran into a young lady who was voting for the first time. Picking up a sample ballot located near the door, she then asked "What is this.". The lady sitting next to me said. The sheet with the questions on it, trouble is, there is no cheat sheet or no . correct an swers either. Of all the statements I have heard during this election - that one was probably the best one. There was a consensus among the room full of voters that it was sad that there was so little choice to make a vote on. People had to choose who they thought could carry the job the best When I walked in to vote, I was surprised to see so many people waiting in line. Usually, I go first thing in the morning but this year I waited until 6 p.m. (I wont be doing that anymore.) Anyway, the really surprising thing was tint there were a lot of people there that I didnt even know. That bet wouldn't be surprising, if I hadn't lived in Henefer all my life. So many new families have moved in, that it is hard to know who they are, unless you get an opportunity to meet them often. ' SubaarllllMS Attribute that to the growth factor, I guess. On another note, the weather continues to be unseasonably warm for this time of year, even with the snow flurries and colder temps experienced as of late. On Monday, as I journeyed to the high school to take a photo and meet with Miss Rodeo America, I viewed three young students casually laying on the ground enjoying the sunshine. My mind was saying, these guy should be in snowshoes, not gym outfits, laying on the grass. Oh well! I'm not going to complain - I'm loving it Hope your week will be a super duper one. Have some fun and smile a lot - it'll make people wonder what you've been up to. s . "There are moments when everything goes well: don't be frightened, it wont last 4jules Renard To The a TillMmAbauHt It's by Leon Slmfster Perhaps the least recognized or discussed of mankind's senses is that of touch, turd yet it is possibly the most personal of all. Psychologists, since who knows when, have lauded the immeasurable necessity of holding and infants commencing with their earliest possible time at caressing new-bor- n birth. They have proven the irrefutable benefits and bonding results as compared to infants less devoutly attended. It seems as if we humans never do outgrow that need for personal attention, either. Sometimes the mere placing of anothers hand on one's shoulder conveys an entire sermon of support and care. Words are sometimes halting and difficult to use in order to convey a true and sincere message of love and support, but the human touch says volumes. A par on the back or X "high five, a solid "bear hug" or sincere embrace of approval speaks of joy, acceptance, support, congratulations, approval, even wild delirium. But most of all it says, "you done' good." Would there be half the excitement and enjoyment at sports contests without the wiki touching antics of people - including both players and spectators? And what would lovers do wjthout the benefit of touching, holding hands, or the exhilaration of a kisi which, analytically, is nothing more than a:touching of theJips (unless you're viewing the messy, devouring, Events To Enjoy Around The State All November: a Touchy Subject TV, suction-cu-p variety). Touching supplies comfort to many. A lot of folks get a lot of comfort out of money, and make their lifetime goal the art of accumulating whole bunches of die green stuff. But Colonel Harlan Sanders (of fried chicken fame) said, "There's no reason to be the richest man in the cemetery. You can't do business from there. Most of us, I think, believe that a sizable bank account will bring the comfort and security necessary. Not to burst that bubble, but bank accounts are guaranteed by an agency of our federal government, and our government is in debt over .$109 trillion dollars at lastcount! "Reach out and touch someone, is a thoughtful quote used by one of the major phone companies, and their philosophy is that you can touch with your voice as well as compared to the touch of the hand. Well, we can touch each other in a lot of ways, 'but the true definition of touch is as in the physical sense. Webster, using an entire dictionary column in which to define it, sums it up virtually in the first sentence, "to put the hand, finger, or other part of the body on, so as to feel, perceive by the sense of feeling..." Yes, there's something abriut the physical,- human, touch which seems to make everything immediately OJC. Even reprimands, or live discipline, seems to be Ires harsh if die person correcting is doing it with their arm around you. It could be that touching, somehow conveys a ' feeling of understanding without Words. Paul Toumier stated'Noone can develop freely in this 'world and find a full life without feeling understood by at least one person. A statement by Car! Jung provided excellent insight about understanding when he offered this bit of advice, "Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves." When words fail, or simply arent comfort enough, or do not come easily, the gentle softness of the human touch is at the ready and the therapy it provides is its always-read- y companion.
