Show 4A The Summit County Bee Friday, June 8, 1990 Senior Citizen News Around The County tiorth Summit Senior Citizens n by Margaret Hennek On Wednesday of last week we were treated to a visit from Diane Cashel, Prevention Specialist from the Valley Mental Health Association of Summit County, and a delightful group of seventh and eighth grade students from North Summit District She has been working with this group of students at the school, so they can help her demonstrate the facts more dearly. Her message to us concerned the Do's and Don'ts of taking medications, things we need to do to help keep alert and active in our aging years. The students presented skits showing the forgetfulness of taking prescribed medications properly. The need for keeping active and in contact with friends and relatives. The need of "joining in" with others and treating yourself to some pleasure and joy quite often. Their treatment of each subject was well done and gave us a lot to think about, as well as a good many laughs as we could see ourselves doing many of the wrong things also. Thanks to everyone who con- tributed to the pleasure and information your visit gave to us. President Ball conducted die meetings this week, assisted by Vice president Morby who read the minutes due to the absence of Secretary Neilson. Announcements were made that we would celebrate Father1! Day on June 13 and that a poduck dinner is scheduled for June 30. More about this later on. George Phelps reminded us of the upcoming trip to Castledale for a Festival, and overnight stay in Huntington and a trip through Huntington Canyon. Cost of the trip is $43 paid in advance. It sounds like a very nice trip for all of us, so see George about it and make plans to go. Get well cards were signed for Joe Warburton and Jay Vernon, who have both been in the hospital recently. We hope they are able to be home by this time. The Prayers were offered by Shirley Phelps on Wednesday, and by Frank Toole on Friday. Visitors this week were Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Barnes, friends we enjoy having with us any time. Die quilting ladies, Gwen, Edna, Eleanor, Gen, and Leah finished another pretty baby quilt this week. Our meals consisted of baked ham and potatoes, com, rolls cottage cheese and pineapple salad, ice cream sundaes on Wednesday; with Jeans specialty, layered sandwiches, potato salad, olives and pickles and strawberry short cake on Friday. Meals were served to sixty four members. Nothing Serious While the computer system may be the greatest technological advance of our time, the squeeze ketchup bottle isn't far behind. Some people leave the storm windows on all either because they are lazy or live next door to a kid taking violin lessons. A small town is a place where sometimes relatives have to double year-roun- d, as friends. There must be some significance to the fact that people have two eyes and two ears but only one mouth. On Wednesday, we were greeted by Vice President Morby who conducted the meeting that day due to the absence of President Ball. Bon-ne- y Lockner, representative of the State Board of Health, talked to us on timely health hints and precautions to be taken by us to avoid accidents in our homes as well as away from them, and in public places. She left literature for all of us to read and see if there are some things we may learn to do to protect ourselves from accidents. George Phelps announced a trip to Castledale Aug. 1 and 2, with Lewis Brothers Stages, for a festival at Castledale, overnight lodging at Huntington and a trip through the Huntington Canyon and some Dinosaur areas on the trip.
