Laptime in Mrs. Fransons first grade is not running around the playground. It is Mrs. Franson holding a younster on her lap, showing her very special kind of love. Reading is: a love of Leoras one she feels is a very important factor in education. In her classroom, so much reading time was required, but the redding went far beyond the requirement. Being prepared isn't just the motto of the Boy Scouts, its Leoras too. Leora is known for working far beyond the bell time. And she has learning. With 35 years in the classroom, comes some memorable incidents. Greg Pitt came to school in a huff and puff saying, "Mrs. Franson, you know What! Theyre going to have a Lions party tonight and they are going to eat Lions food." Another 'child was having a fit about Mr. going to the barber;' he just couldnt under- stand why he had to go there. The pencil sharpener was broken, Leland Gibbons was told not to use it. But children being what they! are, Leland ground away. Leora said If you would use your ears instead of the pencil sharpener,! you would get that pencil sharpened alot faster." So he put the pencil in his ear. Leora discontinued show and tell a number of years ago, the stories were getting a bit out of hand. If the parents only knew. During kindergarten class, it was customary to take naps. While everyone else was napping, Terry Taylor Davis stuck a bobbie pin in the electric socket, putting out all the lights in the school. Louis Field told Leqra the, reason lie caii ptayon the bulls aiiiT bucking hroncs so well, is because' she taped him to the chair.1 Leora instigated the "rabbit ears". Every friday before Easter, all the. kids would wear their the kindergaryeirs, representing ten. She was a social studies guide for the state representing the primary grades. She served two terms as President of the South Summit Teachers Association. She served four terms on the House of Delegstes for the South Summit School District. Leora has prided herself with missing very few days of teaching in her 35 years. She was only gone when she was so ill there was no other alternative. And even at that she feels guilty, she has always strived for a perfect record. Leoras colleagues said the Principal Myri Louder: Mrs. Franson, in my estimation, is a very outstanding educator. I have known her as my daughters first grade teacher and I have associated with her this past year as her principal. She is dedicated to teaching children. Her greatest concern seems to be with those few students that need a little extra help. She is always wanting to make sure they had every opportunity to learn that she could give them. We will miss her and wish her the very best as she leaves the teaching profession. Former Principal, . Rex B. Walker. "I think shes a 100 dedicated teacher to the children and profession alike. She took each individual child and worked with them. She had the ability to diagnose a childs potential. She took all new and beginning teachers under her winjg and assisted them in getting adjusted. She was a teacher that was firm but fair and loving. She put in as many or more hours on preparation and lessons as any teacher we following: ever had. She liked to have parents come in and see their childs performance and observe their progress. She is an excellent teacher, as good the day she started as the day she finished."
