He attended school in Salt Lake City and the University of Utah. He served two years in the U.S. Army in Germany. For 15 years he was a member of the Utah Highway Patrol. For the past 10 years he owned and operated the Mountain Village Coffee Shop at Parleys' Summit. He is married and he and his wife, Mae, have two children.
