Show Crandalls and Matleys Return from Tour of South America Back home again alter a months tour of South America are Mr. and Mrs. George Crandall Sr., and Mr.andMrs.Mark Matley. This marvelous trip took them more than 25,000 air miles In visiting the huge continent. During the tour they visited all the major cities and points of Interest In South and Central America. Mr. Matley stated he eras most Impressed by the countrys extremes-peo- cither very rich or very poor, great wealth to be seen and the Inflation which Is so obvious. Another outstanding feature was the amount of undeveloped land ' resources. The Matleys and the Crandalls were also made aware of the political unrest and frequent changes of government by revolution. One man, questioned about this unseating of governments, stated their revolutions are similar to our elections... after all, assassinations arent uncommon during an election. The most outstanding scenic features of the country noted by the Matleys were Iguassu Falls and the ruins at Machu Plcchu. The Falls extend for three miles in the rainy season and would make Nlagra Falls look like a trickle he explained. The ruins feature the diggings of archeologists In the ruins of an ancient Inca village. They have uncovered the remnants of many villages and the bones and mummies of many women and children but very few men. They explained this by assuming the men had gone off to fight a war and only the women and chll-re- n had remained. The mummies are found burled In a semi-sittiposition and are to be seen In the many museums. The tour began In Santiago, Chile where they visited the worlds largest race track. Going on to Argentina they saw the beautiful resort towns of Mendoza and Carlos Pax. They also, visited .the 1436 Mission . Hoihd In Cordoba. Buenos Aires, a city of eight million, was busy and beautiful. The visitors noticed the Inflation of the peso which was worth $1 in 1930. It now takes 350 peso's to make $L There has been some political trouble, under Peron and the country Is now progresslhg under ' government;'7 on the Tigre Taking a ride River, they passed many beautiful resort homes ahd estates. They also saw the Recole lta Cemetery where lots are $100,000 each and it has 5000 vaults. eo In Uraguay they visited and saw Don Blonqulst in the LD6 Mission Hone. Dan reported he is enjoying his work so much he plans to stay on past his two years. In this country they saw many homes of marble which Is cheaper than wood. Visiting a cattle ranch, they discovered cattle sell for seven cents per . . ' SUMMONS Civil No. 3912 . Here they also visited the very Interesting Butantan Snake farm where snakes and spiders are grown for their venom. They can extract 12 e.c. of venom per milking and milk the snakes each six weeks. The venom Is then made Into serum for snake bites. Rio de Janero Is remembered for Sugar Loaf Mt., a beautiful statue of Christ and Its expansive beaches. They were greatly Impressed by the class distinction here and the great poverty which can be seen In the slums. Lima, Peru, was a very Interesting historical city which was the capltol of the ancient Inca civilatlon. Here there are many museums and In Cusco nearby, the ruins of Machu Plcchu. Again they were impressed with the extreme destitution of the Indians. In Panama they came through the Canal and the Mlreflores Locks. From there they went Into Mexico City, Mexico where they visited the Museum of Anthropology and the Pyramids. In summing up their trip, they noted how each country lo South America feels superior to the other countries. They were most Impressed with the amount of. wealth, to comparison with.-thextreme poverty' shown by the working class and saw the country as one where the poor were being exploited unmercifully. On returning home Mr. and Mrs. Matley visited for another week In San Diego, Calif, with Dr. and Mrs. Ben Stahmann. ' The; Crandalls', havf gone. to Arizona for another short vaca- tion.
