Bees WAXING by Mary Bee I am always open for suggestions on how to improve the Summit County Bee, so, since several ladies have requested a recipe column, Fm giving you one of my ELECTION reflection, purely my own ideas, continued. the Owners? Why should they give up the present a glass of ice gravy-sell- ing water for 25 or 35 cents, to be s? jised as a set-u- p for the After a weeks further study, to vote for Bennett only because of the great Up stick wielded by Seniority. Besides, it looks like Nixon, and he needs a majority. All the Amendments deserve a "yes vote in my book. Continued starvation pay for legislators will cut down on their quality, and the states growth demands a more frequent session. The Inventory tax heading, Proposition No. Three, will wipe out Inequities. Number Four is most important to Summit and Morgan Counties. As agricultural lands shrink to give way to growing small-acrea- ge population, the burden will become intolerable. This is a must. And every one has seen Judges on the bench who have been there too long. This situation will be remedied by No. Five, mandatory retirement of Judges. Ive decided THE LIQUOR Initiative Petition. I will vote "For. There pro several reasons. As an advertising man for 35 years, I read between the lines and behind the scenes and see an appeal to voters who obey orders without wondering why they were given. Somehow I mistrust the motives of any organisation which would spend the hundreds of thousands of dollars which are being spent, on an issue brown-bagger- NO MATTER what the opponents insist about LBD having no effect on tourism- -I KNOW what I know. I have sat in on three separate meetings with reps of outside money. They have orders NOT to come into the ski areas with millions of dollars UNLESS LBD goes through. These are the experts. It was at one of these meetings that 1 first heard the Joke about the stewardess on the plane approaching Salt LakeClty: "You will now turn your watches back 30 years." There are bound to be some fallacies in the Petition. These can be corrected by the Legislature. THOSE WHO INSIST that they must vote against LBD because ON which should, after all, be Judged by common sense rather than rabble-rousin- g. Some of the advertising has been grossly misleading-- so far off center that it should challenge the intelligence of every adult. This adds to my mistrust of sincerity. Did you know that strong opponents of the Petition include starter. Tavern of their sincere belief that it will be damaging to morals have my support. If they are truly sincere in this belief they should vote against the petition. But hypocrites get, as always, the back of my hand. I was reared in a bone-dr- y, teetotaling home. Later most of my friends and I were hard drinkers. So 1 have seen both sides. I have lived in a "wet" state like Nebraska and a "dry" state like Utah. Again, I have seen both sides. I devoutly pray that 1 may never touch a drink as long as I live. And I am FOR Liquor Initiative Petition No. A.-booze-hatin- g, . Forty elementary children from the Ogden School for the Blind were our guests. The Lions Club fills event and the faculty say that for days before they come the youngsters get excited about spending a day on the farm. With all the nasty statements that you hear and read about candidates for office it is relaxing to spend a quiet afternoon with these young people. Starting out with rides on a Shetland, average size horse and then the Mg Clydesdales, then on to a hayrlde and examining the farm animals, a couple of hours soon pass. Home-macookies and cold punch make the afternoon a complete success. On the 30th, from the same school will be our guests for an evening party. These teen-age- rs really are something. It should be a nearly full moon but if it is cloudy they wont complain. Those who help with the entertainment will appreciate the bright moon and the glorious sunrise next morning more than they ever have before. Again we thank the Lions Club for their support. de The ceremonies at the would be long and tiresome but such was not the case. If the Liquor Initiative Petition is defeated next Tuesday, the Utah State Legislature will accept this defeat as a command from the voters to enact legislation next January that is far more restrictive than we now have. The Barker-Grabill, endorsed by powerful Utah interests and enthusiastically supported by the Deseret News, would permit any county to vote total prohibition by a simple majority vote. Because 90 of Utah legislators belong to religions which preach total abstinence it is reasonable to assume that they will move in the direction of prohibition. Is this what you really want? nt If the Liquor Initiative Petition is successful next Tuesday Utah will encourage waiting investors to build facilities for a great new tourist industry that can bring Utah additional tourist and convention revenue of $400,000,000. University of Utah economists say that adding this much to our economy each year would result in increasing Utah family income $1,3S8 every year and creating 48,000 new jobs, enabling us to keep our young people here in Utah. We will join with 42 other states and 85 of the population of the nation in having an honest, realistic liquor law and the respect that such a law will bring. We believe, as Governor Rampton has said, that it is expertly drafted' but if, for any reason, changes are desirable, the Utah legislature can act. Utah's liquor law will not stay as it is today. Please consider carefully which way you want Utah to go and vote according to your own conscience in the privacy of the voting booth. - Thank you. - Walker Wallace, Secretary A well studied and thoroughly acceptable bill has been written that would restore the kind of control Utah needs.
