She was recently elected Queen of the Future Farmers of America. Named first attendant was ytss Lois Prescott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Prescott of Francis, and second attendant is Miss Peggy Hoyt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hoyt of Kamas. Other honored contestants were Miss Dixie Crittenden, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Crittenden; Miss Jana Bigelow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bigelow, and Miss JoAnn Brushnahan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Brushnahan. The contestants were required to milk a cow, take tests, make posters, present a talent number, and answer a question in an assembly. Geary who will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary January 9. They plan to have all their family in attendance for the occasion, and invite all their friends and neighbors to join them in the Coalville Stake House from 2 to 5 p.m. The couple was married Jan. 9, 1918 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of two sons, Grant and Dean of Coalville and four daughters, Rosebud Johnson of Vale, Oregon, fiptty and LaVaun Vernon and Roma Jean Maxwell all of Coalville. They have 22 grandsons and 8 grand-daughte- rs, 12 great grandsons and 5 great granddaughters. Reed Moore, County Extension Agent attended the State Extension Service conference at USU last week where he took part in group discussion with emphasis on Social Action and Leadership. The annual meeting of the County Agents Association of Utah was held at which Lloyd Smith of Morgan County was elected vice president. No serious accidents were reported because of the snow, however, and Tuesday noon the sky had turned blue and the sun was shining again. State and county road crews worked hard to remove the heavy drifts from roads to improve driving conditions and prepare for the next onslaught. The pictures are the gift of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Bronson of T WOOL'-CONTES- MUST BE IN FRIDAY The Summit County Lady Woolgrowers are busy precontest as well as the paring for the Miss Wool of Utah competition, President Beth Fawcett announced today. All entries for the contest must be in by Friday, Dec. 22, and entry blanks may be obtained from Helen Judd. The contest will be held in the North Summit High School at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 6, where the public will have the opportunity to see the girls model the garments they have made. The search for Miss Wool of Utah for 1968 is under the direction of Isabell Judd in Summit County, and will highlight the 1968 Woolgrowers Convention Jan. 12, 1968. Five finalists will be chosen at the ladies luncheon for presentation at the convention banquet that evening. Miss Wool of Utah will receive a weeks trip to the Miss Wool of America Pageant site in San Angelo, Texas. She will also grace her own float in the Days of 47 parade and will have the opportunity of being sponsored in the Miss Utah Scholarship Pageant and will make other appearances throughout the state. Young ladies between the ages of 18 and 25 inclusive, who have finished one year of college, or who are currently registered in an approved college; are at least 5 feet 6 inches tall and able to wear a standard sixe 10 dress are eligible to enter. The proposed budget is for $394,021.61, showing an in- crease over last year's bud- geted amount of $365,238. The estimated surplus of $103,245.61 from the 1967 budget will be added to the 1968 estimated Project H Summit County have added another honor to their long list by winning the State H Community Beautification award and a $25 prize this week. This award, which is given to the high ranking county in the state for work in this line was presented by the National H committee to J. Reed Moore at the Awards Banquet in Logan Thursday evening. Bus and Car Meet at Echo Owen Roberts Gains Honors revenue of $290,776. The largest increase is shown in the fire equipment appropriation where an additional $29,000 will be necessary for the pur- chase of a new fire engine for the SjS. district. Also showing an increase is the road fund where an additional $13,000 has been appropriated for use in building the new Chalk Creek road. This brings the road fund appropriation up to $72,000. Other departments showing a decided increase are elections, $7,500 as compared to $300 for last year because of the extra expense of a general election; an additional $5,000 for operation of the hospital; an appropriation of $1,000 for civil defense as compared to minor expenditures Inpast years. additional appropriation of $3,000 has been made for advertising and promotion which has not been included in past budgets. Money for this purpose has been taken from other funds in the past and commissioners felt a separate appropriation would be advisable. An Increase of $1,500 to the fair board was made to cover a like amount which was borrowed for Improvements in the 1967 fair grounds. The appropriation of $1,000 for flood control was made to cover costs of controlling this problem in the Park City area the past year. All surplus money is kept on deposit to earn interest when The collision of a Greyhound bus and an automobile at the newly completed intersection at 5 p.m. Saturday Echo about afternoon luckily resulted in no injuries although the bus came close to going into Echo Creek. The bus, driven by Glen Willi-so- n, was coming west off the end of the freeway and collided with the car which had made a left turn in front of it. After bouncing off the left front fender of the car, the bus careened out of control with the front end going over the embankment. Damage to the bus was minor and damage to the car was estimated at $150. Passengers were loaded on another bus and about one a.m. Sunday morning the bus was pulled out. Driver of the car was ticketed for failure to give the right-of-w- aj by investigating officers Don Facer and Ted London of the Utah Highway Patrol. Owen Roberts of Henefer was honored at a state Soil Conservation meeting in Salt Lake last week for twenty years of volunteer work. Mr. Roberts was congratulated for having given unselfishly of his time, in helping to encourage and practicing conservation of soil, plant life and water to improve conditions within his county. Mikesell, specialist of the educational service center, reported on the classes he has held math-scien- ce arranged for later in the year. J. Keith Rogers, language arts specialistsreportedon and Language Arts classes he is holding within the districts, and how they are English aiding the schools in improving their English program. An exceptional musical program was presented by the South Summit High School under the direction of the music teacher for that school. Representatives from Box Elder, Rich, Morgan, North Summit, South Summit, Park City, Wasatch, Daggett, Duchesne and Uinta all agreed it was a very educational and enlightening program. |
