SCHOOL NEWS APRIL SUMMIT COUNTY NEWS 10, 2015 North Summit's Berkley Curtis lobbies the Legislature on Capitol Hill During the legislative session that just concluded, North Summit freshman Berkley Curtis worked on the hill in support of several bills. Among the bills she supported, Berkley attended house committee hearings and wrote letters to the editor for HB105 and HB242, two More Jr. Prom... PAGE A5 FFA Salem Hills Judging Competition bills which protect women's rights in the workplace. Berkley noted, "women should have rights because we're just as equal as men and go through just as much to be equal." Both bills passed through the legislature and await the governor's signature. Berkley also met with Senator Aaron Osmond to discuss education reform for at-risk youth and how to curb dropout rates. "It was great to be able to experience something most people haven't even given thought to, and to have a chance to be able to be heard" said Berkley. Horse judging team A Livestock team B Horse team B The North Summit FFA Chapter participated in the Salem Hills judging competition held on Wednesday, April 1. The members who are on the horse and livestock judging teams were able to get a feel for what will be coming at state in a few weeks. North Summit was able to send two teams of four people to each event. In the Horse Judging competition, FFA members evaluate performance classes and conformation classes. The Horse Judging teams judged a total of 4 classes at Salem Hills. Horse Judging Team A consisting of Mckaylie Richins, Chason Hortin, Koleman DuCharme, and Coree Jacobson placed second overall in the competition and Koleman DuCharme was recognized as the third high individual. Team B consisting of Jaxon Hortin, Anne Hendry, Kassidy Jones, and Calissa Robinson represented North Summit FFA very well. We also had two teams compete in the livestock judging event. The members are able to judge a variety of classes consisting of beef, swine, and sheep. Livestock Judging Team A (Dalton Gibbs, Chase Dallin, Kayson Judd, and Kodee Dawson) placed second overall in the competition with team B (Wyatt Woolstenhome, Sierra Brierly, Syd Judd, and Hailee Blonquist) representing our chapter well.
