HARRINGTON-PENTZ Special to the News The generations of Pentz wrestlers began some time before 1960 with just a few of Charlie Pentz's sons. Stan, Larry, Steve, Byron, and Randy wrestled for Morgan High School back in the 1960's and Zane in 1979-1980. The brothers did well in wrestling with Randy, Steve, Byron, and Zane winning State Championships over the years. One Croydon resident Randy Pentz, in 1962 as a junior, wrestled in the 165 pound weight class and placed first in the State tournament. Pinning three, he was instrumental in the first place trophy that Morgan High School received after the school won the State wrestling tournament, and that trophy is still on display in the sports memorabilia case today. He was also awarded Outstanding Athlete for Wrestling and Football that year. He took State again in 1963. The Morgan High School wrestling team has not taken State since. The family tradition of wrestlers continued in 1992 with Randy's son Dusty Pentz, when he earned his State Championship in his junior year and was also awarded Outstanding Wrestler. Steve's son Eli wrestled in 1993-1994. Zane, a two time state champion himself in 1979 and 1980 and his son Mark of Millard became a four time State Champion from 2003-2006. Now in 2015 the tradition still continues with Dusty's son Randin Pentz, a sophomore, at North Summit High School, winning individual state at 170 pounds. Randin has had his best year to date with being invited to the All Star Duel where he was just Randin Pentz (2015 2A State Champion # 170), Jayden Pentz (3A State Champion #132) and Owen Pentz (placed second at State at # 145 in 3A) barely beaten by Juab's State Champion Ashton Seeley and still ranked #1 in 2A for North Summit High School. Randin also finished first at Divisional and continued his winning streak on February 14th at UVU for the State Championship and received his Outstanding Wrestler award. The 2015 State wrestling tournament turned into a family affair for three Pentz boys that evening. For the first time since 1992, not only one member of the Pentz family took individual state, but two became state champions and the third took second place. Randin Pentz, son of Dusty Pentz took state at 170 pounds and the two sons of Eli and Krissy Pentz of Morgan; Jayden (132 pounds) took first and Owen Pentz (145 pounds) finished second. The Pentz family takes great pride in the talent that has been handed down to the younger generations. They enjoy watching them follow the path forged by their fathers, their uncles and their grandfathers. Truth be known, being born into the Pentz family, the boys didn't have a choice to be anything but a high school wrestler. Jayden being a senior this year at Morgan High School dominated his individual and team wrestling accomplishments and after State he placed second at Super State while his brother Owen Pentz placed first. It was a great way for Jayden to end his high school wrestling career as he left some big wrestling shoes for his younger brother Owen and cousin Randin to fill. The two sophomores from different schools, weight classes and divisions are finding that the higher step on the medal podium is a nice place to be. Up and coming future Pentz wrestlers, are Morgan's Waylen and Wil Pentz and in Coalville to carry on the Pentz tradition is Ryker Pentz. The large family looks forward to many years to come watching the Pentz boys wrestle and carry on with big accomplishments of their own. Many members showed off their skating skills while others tightly clung to the handrails. Those who could skate gladly tried to teach those who could not, but it was a difficult task. By the end of the night, almost everyone could pedal their way around the ice sheet, even if they fell a few times. Fun was had by all and many memories were made while ice skating at the Ogden Ice Sheet! No Subscribe To The Summit County News Don't Miss a Single Issue! 435) 654-1471 |
