Show AROUND THE COUNTY MARCH 6, 2015 SUMMIT COUNTY NEWS A Book Fair For Braylen PAGE A3 Sheriff's Report Blotter Braylen Russell is a bright energetic 3-year-old boy who loves balloons, Sponge Bob, swimming, riding bikes, bowling, trucks, and books. Braylen's challenge is that he was diagnosed Sept. 19. 2013, with acute lymphoblastic leukemia or ALL. His symptoms were severe paleness, bruising, and he could not walk. He was diagnosed with an infection in his hip. He was referred to Primary's Children's Medical Center and was diagnosed with cancer. The family first had Medicaid and was dropped because of a job change. The family went for one month without insurance and the bill for the month of July was $60,000. Every month Braylen has to endure a lumbar puncture, blood transfusions, chemotherapy and a spinal tap. The current insurance covers 80 % but the family is charged with 20%. Braylen's mom says that the bills keep piling up and all she can do is put them aside to deal with in monthly payments that will last many lifetimes. So the South Summit Elementary PTO book fair under the direction of Amanda Blaz- zard chose Braylen as their book fair boy to help. People donated their change when they visited the book fair and over $ 700 was raised to help Braylen's family. Braylen was invited to the Thursday night family event early to meet Clifford the Big Red Dog and to pick out books and toys and candy. Braylen still has 21/2 years of monthly treatments left and South Summit Elementary invited anyone who reads this article to donate to Braylen's family at http: / /gfwd.at/1DCtO W8 or to Giveforward.com • Drugs N Landmark Drive - Suspect(s): Synopsis: Deputy stopped the vehicle for failure to signal and no license plate. Successful day on the Hill "Water is life" BY JODY SNELGROVE Potable water is vital, but potable water that tastes good is a bonus! Recently, Mayor Lee Snelgrove, of Francis, Councilman Jeremie Forman, and Public Works Director, Luke Thomas (who has done a tremendous job in getting Francis's water to this point), had the opportunity of representing their water system at the 2015 National Rural Water Rally in Washington D. C. Feb, 10-12, and participating in the "Great American Water Taste Test" held there. Francis won "Best Tasting Water in Utah" at the Utah Rural Water Conference in 2014, qualifying them to go to D.0 this year, where they were ranked fourth in the National Contest. The Rural Water Association is an invaluable resource to small cities and towns across the nation in helping achieve safe drinking water for our communities. Part of the National Rally was for these Rural Representatives to visit with their National Representatives in the House and Senate, and make known to them the importance of our drinking water. Francis took samples of "the best tasting water in Utah" to each of these Representatives, and were able to visit with most of them through the arrangements made by URWA delegates, Dale Pierson, Vern Steel, Scott Anderson, and Paul Fulgham. Various Utah Nonprofits gathered in the rotunda to advocate their organizations missions and speak with Utah State Representatives and Senators. Displays included graphs of other cities and states with ordinances that reflect these initiatives as well as photos of the harmful affects of plastic packaging.
