Soccer will start August of 2015 at NSHS CHERYL OVARD SCN Editor At the North Summit School Board meeting last week the addition of "Soccer" in the curriculum will be added - approved with a 4-1 vote! The NS School Board has yet to determine where the facility will be, and who will be over the activity. It has been a desired sport which parents and youth have wanted to be added for a long time. There are students living in the county who have switched their children to other schools in order to make it possible for them to play this popular sport! Scholarships are also available for students participating in this sport all over the country! After this gets off the ground and is going strong next year, perhaps this will also be something for students to participate in and look into these scholarships! Dawson distinguished himself by exceptionally heroic service on Oct. 5, 2013, as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician while deployed to Afghanistan." In Kandahar Province, the strike force was being inserted during a special operations raid. SSG Dawson witnessed an individual fleeing the compound, and accompanied the squirter interdiction element that maneuvered to secure the fleeing individual. This individual immediately detonated a suicide vest, killing himself and the multi-purpose canine, Jani. Dawson sustaining significant blast effects and fragmentation wounds to his leg, but began to return fire on what was perceived to be a near ambush. He then became aware the existing threat on the ground, making a recommendation not to traverse ahead due to the IED threat. SSG Dawson then proceeded to clear the interdiction team back to the target compound as there were multiple casualties. There were three separate detonations, but despite his own wounds, he assisted with the casualty evacuation by clearing a thirty foot lane through the IED-laden area so that SGT Peters, an SrA Windle, pararescue jumper, to provide aid. SSG Dawson then returned to the casualty collection point and cleared a ten foot path for two others to assist with wounded through the IED belt. He acted alone, refusing to leave a fallen comrade, recovering other's remains and returned them to the casualty collection point. He then began to clearing a route to 1LT Moreno with his metal detector. After approximately twenty five feet, SGT Dawson located an IED and uncovered wires; he immediately marked it and informed the assault force of the threat. SSG Dawson adjusted the clearance route and while moving, located another IED. After marking IED #2 and in- CONTINUED ON PAGE A3 This scenario, being one of the most complex in explosive detection, required SSG Dawson to repeatedly expose himself to active PPIEDs under limited visibility conditions. SSG Dawson was less than five feet from a tenth detonation that critically wounded CPL Hargis. He sustained significant secondforming the assault force, SSG Dawson was determined to recover 1LT Moreno, and again located a third IED. CONTINUED ON PAGE A3 North Summit Lady Braves — Region Champions Today The second half proved to be too much for the Wildcats as the braves took control of the game and pulled ahead... with no looking back. The Lady Braves scored 37 of their 64 points in the second halfholding South Summit to a 20 point second half. With the win, the Braves finished region play unblemished! Kasidee Evans led the way with 24 points and 10 rebounds. After a close three quarters, the Braves pulled away in the 4th quarter to get the win. Haylee McQueen led all scorers with 27 points, she also pulled down 10 rebounds. Others contributing: Kasidee Evans (10pts, 7 rebounds ), Brena Richins (6pts, 4 rebounds), Jenessa Stephens (5pts, 6 rebounds), Madi Birk (3pts, 6 rebounds), Hunter Vernon (2pts, 8 rebounds) and Elise Richins (2pts, 2 rebounds). Final Score: North Summit 54- Summit Academy 44. The last home game of the season took place on February 12th against South Summit. Our two seniors (Kasidee Evans and Haylee McQueen) were honored prior to the start of the ball game. The Lady Braves worked hard. Following the play in game the 2A state tournament will be held at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield. Quarterfinals on Thursday Feb. 26, Semifinals- Friday, Feb. 27, and Championship game to be held Saturday Feb. 28. Good Luck At State! Pat Putt promoted to Vice Chair PCMC County Official Appointed Vice Chair of Hospital's Governing Board (Park City, UT) Park City Medical Center recently appointed Pat Putt to position of Vice Chair on the hospital's governing board. Putt has spent the past six years as a member of the board of directors, and during that time he served as chairman of the Community Relations Committee. In his new position as an executive committee member of the board, Putt will continue to donate his valuable time and considerable expertise to the operations, growth and mission of Park City Medical Center.
