Show SCHOOL NEWS PAGE A4 JANUARY 23, 2015 SUMMIT COUNTY NEWS South Summit School Board 2015 members Debra Blazzard and Steven Hardman were sworn into office on Monday. Craig Hicken was re-elected as Board President and Suni Woolstenhulme as Vice President. The South Summit School District met and new and former members were sworn into office. The following were sworn in on Monday, Jan. 12, at the District Office: South Summit School Board Members: Debra Blazzard and Steven Hardman. Blazzard was elected in the Esonas Compete and Show their "True Brave Spirit" The North Summit Esonas are proving they are Braves true and through. They recently competed at Richfield against twelve 2A schools, where they placed an amazing 2nd in Military and 5th in their Jazz routine. Outstanding! They will journey back to Richfield for their Region Competition on Jan. 27, and then off to UVU on Feb. 7, for State Drill. They are coached by Shelly Moore and Heather Strong. If you haven't been able to see these last General Election, and Hardman was reelected each for the two-year terms. The South Summit School Board also elected the following: Craig Hicken, re-elected to another term as the South Summit School Board President, and Suni Wollstenhulme was elected as the School Board Vice President. Results from the 2015 Utah Cheer Club Sport Southern Region girls in action, we encourage you to come rally them on at their upcoming competitions. The follow are the listings of the Varsity and All Girl competition which was held at the Salem Hills High School: 5A Varsity Co-Ed: 1st American Fork; 4A Varsity Co-Ed: 1st Wasatch; 2nd Timp View; 3A Varsity Co-Ed: 1st Juab, 2nd Tooele, 3rd, North Sanpete; 5A Varsity All Girl: 1st Lone Peak; 4A Varsity All Girl; 1st Salem Hills, Springville; 3A Varsity All Girl 1st: Richfield; 2nd: Snow Canyon; 3rd: Deseret Hills; 4th Carbon, 2A Varsity All Girl 1st: North Sevier, Beaver; 1A All Girl Show no tumbling: 1st Bryce Canyon; 1A All Girls Show Cheer; 1st: Tintic; 3A JV Show: 1st Tooele; 3A School / Fight Song: 1st Snow Canyon; 3A Songleading / Pom: 1st Park City, 2nd Snow Canyon; 4A Songleading / Pom: 1st Wasatch; 3A Sideline / Timout Dance: 1st Snow Canyon; 2nd Richfield. These schools will advance to the State Competition that will be held on Jan. 31 at Salt Lake Community College. Congratulations on a job well done in each and every category. Region 16 - Update as of Jan. 16 NORTH SUMMIT 58, GUNNISON 29: North Sum- mit took the opportunity and ended up leading out to a 194 lead in the fourth quarter, and never looked back as it On Jan. 13, the Lady Braves traveled to Gunnison to take on the Gunnison Bulldogs. North Summit took a commanding lead at the break and cruised in the second half to blow past Gunnison on the road. Haylee McQueen and Kasidee Evans combined for 33 points in the win. A double, double was recorded for Kasidee Evans. The final score NS 66 — Gunnison 18. On January 15th the Lady Braves traveled to American Leadership Academy. North Summit was able to pick up the road region win behind 32 combined points from Haylee McQueen and Kasidee Evans. On Jan. 20, against Manti and on Jan. 22, they will meet up with Summit Academy. Tip off at 7 p.m. opened Region 16 play with a victory. SUMMIT ACADEMY 63, SOUTH SUMMIT: 57:Zach Scott led the Bears with 18 points in the region victory over South Summit. Although it was a loss, Mason Gines and Jason Griffin combined their points to make 42 points for the Wildcats. The rival game of the season with North Summit 44 and South Summit 48 at the buzzer CHERYL OVARD SCN Editor The Braves lost to South Summit, but not without a hard fight. With fouls and missed baskets, Mason Richins fouled out early in the game! The score was 39-37 with 3:25 left, and free throws telling the story at the end. Both teams fighting for the ball, and shots making it at each end, leaving the crowd wondering where the ball will be at the end. Seniors make points until a 4 point lead with 2 minutes left. Beasley and Calderwood went up for a jump ball As this year is hitting its with 1:28 left in the game, halfway mark, I'm sure we both boys are fighting hard to have all had our fair share of control the ball for their pictures to look back on from teams, and making shots right the time we were wee freshmen to being top of the food chain seniors. Unknowingly, I started receiving pictures called the "Larissa selfie" featuring half their face. Then I realized when I take selfies, I only take it of half my face. This has all become a huge joke and it makes me look back at all the amazing friends and fun I have had here at South Summit throughout my educational journey. and left. South Summit kept control of the ball but was stopped with a foul by Hunsaker, which let the South Summit team shoot, but they missed the shot! Still with 51 seconds North Summit made another basket, leaving South Summit to lead only by two points. Offense was low and team defense high. Forrest fouled out of the ball game, and the free throw went to South Summit with Ty Jones at the line. Ty Jones had two free throws due to the fact that the foul was called a "flagrant foul!" He made one, so South Summit was three points ahead. Brayden Richins made a try for the basket, but ended up with a miss and then a time out was called. With 13 seconds left 46-43 for South Summit, they came back on the floor. After and a 1 and 1 try, McMichael for North Summit missed. South Summit, with 8 seconds, made it to 4 points ahead with now a 48-44 lead. There were.8 seconds left, and the defense with South Summit, they controlled the ball, and South Summit won with a 4 point lead! This win gave them a 2-way tie with North Summit in the League.
