Show JUNE SUMMIT COUNTY NEWS 24, 2011 New Park City Fire Chief meets Summit County Council CHERYL OVARD SCN Editor Paul Hewitt, Park City Fire Chief, and his Assistant Chief who oversees operations, Bob Zanetti; Assistant Chief Scott Adams, Fire Marshall; and Frank Harimann, over Administration, were introduced to the Summit County Council last week at their regular Council meeting at the Sheldon Richins Building. Introductions were made by Robbie Beck, who is over the operations at the Olympic Park. Hewitt praised the Park City Fire Service District (PCFSD) Personnel - "...they are of the highest quality and (are ready) at all times to sup- port the public." The PCFSD employs 78 full-time and 3 part-time firefighter /EMTs; typically 12-15 winter seasonal EMTs (to assist in the numerous ski injury ambulance transports); and 11 administrative personnel. It also employs and manages a paid-call ambulance transport service of 21 personnel for a neighboring 500 square-mile rural community. The department is funded by Sales Tax. Chief Zanetti stated that "...the calls seem to be more numerous, and we get busier every year. "We also have great paramedics, they are all of the highest level!" Scott mentioned that they PAGE A3 Sheriff's Report Blotter meet with the Park City Police and Wasatch County staff to discuss how to handle problems now arising with the fireworks law changing. Frank commented that the University of Utah has been a great resource hospital to work with the Summit County Area. Some of their fun and important things they have done include the Park City Follies held in April, 101 Class - it is the greatest! The mission of the PCFSD is to "...enhance the quality of life for those we serve; safeguard the environment and economic base of our communities; make a positive difference; and provide excellence in service." • 06/13/2011 Attempt to Locate: White Dodge truck was driving east bound in the west bound lane caller stated the truck just made a u turn and is now traveling towards WB80 in the correct lane. • 06/13/2011 Vehicle Fire Large: Nobody is in the home, but can see flames. Complainant is certain resident is at work. This is a fifth wheel camping trailer. • 06/14/2011 Suspicious: Tan Tahoe pulling white trailer, approximately 7 year old female in back seat holding sign "HELP", one day time running light is out. Vehicle is one mile from Wanship exit. • 06/15/2011 Suspicious: Complainant advised there is someone squatting in her condo. She advised there should not have been anyone in the condo for the last several months. She received a high power bill for the last two months. Complainant has a respondent on scene to meet with the Deputy. • 06/15/2011 Suspicious: There is a male at the Wal-Mart entrance and a male at the Tanger Outlet entrance both holding up gas cans. The signs they're both holding up say "anything will help". They are both in their 60s and both appear to be "well dressed". • 06/15/2011 DUI: Car went rolled over from across the marina. Multiple calls on a rollover went over the guard rail. Can't see anyone out of the car. Both callers were across the lake. • 06/15/2011 Wildlife Problem: Spotted a large bear approximately 5 minutes ago while she was out walking. • 06/16/2011 Wildlife Problem: Light brown large bear in respondent's back yard. • 06/16/2011 Theft: Complainant believes three people have been stealing tobacco products from his store in Oakley while the store is open. • 06/16/2011 Attempt to Locate: Silver Chrysler Sebring convertible. They have hit the rumble strips several times and travel in both lanes. • 06/18/2011 Trespassing: 30 bicyclists. Complainant asked them to leave because they were on private property. They bypassed the gate and continued on. • 06/18/2011 Vandalism: Advised someone pulled a valve out of the creek and took the chain causing the volley ball court to flood. Complainant will meet the Deputy on scene. • 06/18/2011 Suspicious: 6 or more shots fired coming from the canyon draw, no vehicles seen, heavy woods, and south of Interstate towards Lambs Canyon. • 06/18/2011 Citizen Assist: Friend drove by and house was TP'd and spray paint was on the driveway and grass. • 06/18/2011 Trespassing: Respondent's daughter went to his summer home and someone has been living in the backyard. There is a tent set up and stuff all over the place. The respondent would like a Deputy to go to the house. • 06/19/2011 01:35:47 Armed Robbery: Caller states that several people are trying to assault him and did assault his friend. • 06/19/2011 Suspicious: Complainant believes neighbor across the street was snapping pictures through a partially open blind of her house. Complainant advised her older sister and his sister's 21 year old adult boyfriend are at the house with her. Total incidents for this report = 444 American Legion Le Roy Benson Post #93 Kamas Valley Fiesta Queen Pageant Zachary D Simkins Lachlan A. Macintosh The American Legion Utah Boys State 2011 Held at Weber State University Campus June 6 through June 10 three boys attended. They represented American Legion post #93 and North Summit High School. The young men that attended were Zachary D Simkins, son of M. Scott and Deani Simkins; Lachlan A. Macintosh, son of Cherise Silvester, and Braden D. Brown, son Braden D. Brown of Jennifer and David Brown. During the program Braden was a State Delegate and County Clerk and received a $1,000 scholarship. Each of the three young men earned three college credits for their participation. They learned the functions of City, County and State Government. The Coalville Lions Club and Moore's Chevron have contributed to the program. Left to right: Hadlie Llewelyn, Paige Peterson and Megan Peterson The Kamas Valley Fiesta Queen Pageant was presented on Saturday, June 18, at the South Summit High School auditorium. During the afternoon, the girls participated in interviews and the swimsuit competition. "Celebrating 100 years" was the theme of the evening. Miss Summit County 2010 Brianna Bodily and Steve Price acted as Masters of Ceremony. The girls performed a production number and then presented their individual talents. The girls were each lovely and elegant in their beautiful formal wear. They also answered the questions with poise and confidence. At the end of the evening, Miss Paige Peterson, daughter of Jeff and Nan Peterson was crowned queen. Her first attendant is Miss Hadlie Ann Llewelyn, Daughter of Troy Llewelyn and Tracie Llewelyn. Second attendant is Miss Megan Peterson, daughter of Jeff and Nan Peterson. A special thanks to Tifani Price for coordinating and producing the pageant this year. CONTINUED FROM FRONT wrestling mats to sleep on (and as one of the sleepers stated..."it was a chorus of `snoring'- but a great place to rest for the exhausted runners!". It was much appreciated. Dinner was served Friday night and breakfast Saturday morning. "It was great fun to visit and provide these services for the runners", stated Cheryl Jones from NSHS . "It was fun to stay up all night with them!" Runners could be spotted having their numbers on, iPods hanging from their ears, lights on foreheads in the evening bobbing as they pounded the pavement. Their team members could be seen in the bumper to bumper line of vans traveling slowly alongside the running route, and in the evening, looking like a bunch of "Christmas lights" as they came down through East Canyon. Some runners were frantically looking for the lost runner on pass on the wristband Cheering supporters to continue the race, but to most the race was not for speed, but to make it to the Dozier Field in Park City at the high school to finish the race! Those who traveled the Guardsman's Pass said it was the most interesting — running with a ten-foot wall of snow on either side of them, but the roadway was dry. The BYU men's team finished in 1st place with a time of 18:38:18. Special thanks to Kent Phippen, the Wasatch Back Race Director. The race went well. Runners op- preciated the organization at the finish line this year. And for a little while in Summit County, there were 13,000 more people last week going through town — a record number for one event!Check out the Summit Spotlight page for more photos.
