CHERYL OVARD SCN Editor Another Awesome Year for our team! Half Fast has been C ■ running in the Wasatch Back for the past 6 years. Always some soar muscles but never any regrets. Those who have run it UNDERSTAND! Those who haven't .. DO IT! Best Time Ever! Park City Fire Chief Hewitt and Staff Meet the Summit County Council... See story on Page A3 ...a constant line of 13,000+ began in Logan, then runners lined the street from one end of Summit County by Morgan through Francis...finishing at Dozier field in Park City! It takes 12 runners (6 for ultra team), 2 vans, an average team pace around 11 minute miles, and the ability to provide three volunteers if you live within 100 miles from the race, and then be ready for the fun run, little sleep, lots of water, and making friends that last a lifetime! That is what the Ragnar is all about! Wasatch Back Ragnar begins in Logan, designated time to start off the race (with about 1500 runners al starting at the same time), and they are off! Over, down, up The exchange - Leena 0. Anderson to her teammate and beating the asphalt with the shoes, until the 302K fun run reaches the finish line in Park City! Making friends, renewing acquaintances, finding the sunscreen, sore muscle cream, band aids for blisters, and support from the van runners and people along the route! "I had to run as a fill-in this year, and did not know anyone — but felt they were like family by the finish line!" stated one runner from Summit County. Co-workers, friends, husband and wife team members, family groups, and even corporate teams ran. They trained before the race diligently to prevent injury, but some were injured in the training process and unfortunately had to ride in the van as a "cheer" supporter and bring in a quick replacement for the team! Twelve-member teams were the norm, but some ran with a 6-member team, called the "Ultimate". Each 12member team had two vans, and the starting times were carefully calculated to make it possible for members to run their three times. There were short (3 mile) runs and longer Amy Ovard and her supporters in Henefer runs averaging about 8-9 miles long, so the members could choose the run that fit their ability. As the runners traveled through the communities of Summit County, they were met with cheers, fruit, water, and support from the townspeople. Stops were provided at each of the high schools, providing showers, restrooms, CONTINUED ON PAGE A3 Today H78 L45 Partly Cloudy Saturday H80 L50 Sunny 2011 Coalville Annual Pig Fest and BBQ CHERYL OVARD SCN Editor Sunday H79 1_48 Eight pigs on the BBQ spit could have been the draw...as the fragrance filled the air on Main Street while walking downtown... or perhaps it was the excitement from entertainment, games and music giving off the festive atmosphere - but whatever it was, 1500 people gathered to join in the fun on Coalville's Main Street Saturday night. It was perfect weather, (for a change), and people lined up for what seemed miles to feast on the meal prepared by the "experts" in various styles of BBQ Pork! A taste of each kind was featured, and all the trimmings - for a mere $2.00 per plate! Now...where else can you find a bargain like that!!! The Coalville Dutch Oven Dessert cook-off had 21 entries this year, and kids and adults brought their best recipe to serve to the hungry crowd. It was unanimous, Dave Allgood won 1st place! He took home the $250 prize money! The evening was complete with entertainment, games for kids, contests, and the "dunk for the pigs feet" in the bucket of water. At first they were all a little apprehensive, but they "bucked" up and stuck their heads into the water and with their teeth Sunny Monday H80 L49 Sunny Tuesday H81 L47 Mostly Sunny Wednesday H75 L45 Entertainment Mostly Sunny Thursday H74 L45 Partly Cloudy Inside The Summit County News 2 Sections 14 Pages Opinion Happenings Obituaries School News Public Notices Classifieds A2 A6 B5 B3-4 Just seven more to finish cooking!
