Show OBITUARIES PAGE SUMMIT COUNTY NEWS B8 Burl Applegate Jr. Burl Applegate Jr. was born Sept. 3, 1939, in Lincoln Parrish, Lincoln County, Wyoming, and "Sonny" died peacefully at home on April 28, 2011, in Hurricane, Utah, after a three year battle following a stroke. Burl was the third child of Burl and Pearl Applegate. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, two brothers, and one sister. He is survived by three brothers; David, Don and Gary, and three sisters; Brenda, Renda and Lenda, his wife, and his children: Patricia Dawn (Vawdrey), Kamas; Nancie Ann (Brown), Pueblo, CO; Burl Applegate 3rd (Ashley), Heber, and Melissa (Holmes), Frazee, Mn.; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Burl finished High School at Gunnisson, CO, 1957 and served in the United States Army 19571961. He married Verle Ann Thacker on Oct. 26, 1963, they had four children, and later divorced. Married Regina Barnhurst on July 17, 1997. Burl had many years of work experience in many capacities including; waiter, miner, construction, oil rigs and card dealer, but he was a lumberjack at heart and always went back to the "woods". He was well liked for his quick wit and sassy sense of humor. There will be a memorial service with military honors at Francis Cemetery on June 18, at 4:00, where friends and family may gather to remember him and share memories. No flowers, please. Dr. John Yoshiharu Kumagai Dr. John Yoshiharu Kumagai, 89, passed away in Oakley on June 9, 2011. He was born on Oct. 26, 1921, in Rock Springs, Wyoming, to Harry Kumagai and Kisao (Ikuno) Kumagai. He married Kimi Okubo in Ogden on Sept. 18, 1943. Doctor Kumagai served the communities of South Summit County for JUNE thirty years. He was a kind and compassionate family doctor to many in the community. He enjoyed fishing and camping and caring for his patients. He is survived by his wife Kim; one son, Peter, both of Kamas; two daughters, Candy Kumagai, of Austin, Texas, married to Will Bate and Penny Atcheson, of Seattle, Washington, married to David Atcheson, and granddaughter, Koki Atcheson. Also surviving are two sisters, Lily Beppu, of Salt Lake City, and Rose Miyasaki, of Los Angeles, California. For family, graveside service was held on Tuesday, June 14, in the Marion Cemetery.
