Show THE S U "n" SPOTLIGHT SUMMIT COUNTY NEWS JUNE 10, 2011 PAGE PCHS Memorial 5K held June 4 CHERYL OVARD SCN Editor The PCHS National Honor Society once again sponsored the Memorial 5K Run on June 4 at the Dozier Field - running on the track lined with banners and images of loved ones who attended PCHS and have since passed on. It was the 3rd annual 5K run to raise funds for scholarships for two good causes. May, 2009, the National Honor Society teamed with the Park City 5 to hold a 5K honoring the memories of five PCHS graduates who died within 7 months of each other in 2008. The incredible support and par- ticipation from the community and families was successful, and this year is the third year that this run will also feature banners made to memorialize their loved ones. There was a memory table with candles as well as photographs, poems. Families and friends registered individually for the 5K run. There was a table with donated items for a silent auction. Winners this year were two male runners who came in within seconds of each other...Marcel Vifian (who has lived in PC for 7 years) and 16 year old Colter Merritt of Park City High School. Families were running with their younger children in strollers, and seniors and others arrived in record time to finish the race. The weather cooperated, and the race and silent auction were a great success. All funds from the Saturday, June 4, Memorial 5K Run 2011 will provide scholarships to help seniors with their freshman year, as well as scholarships helping those going to Peru this summer to build a sister school there. In 2009 students worked in two different villages in Ecuador and in 2010 they worked in Bolivia.
