The breakfast held at the Legacy in Park City was the site of the celebration. Park City's Mayor, Dana Williams, led out the entourage of speakers. "It has been ...20 years of Great work...Conservation...The Today 500 Recycling Center - we use-reuse...and look forward to keep doing it! - thanks to all for recycling!" Michael 0' Hare - spoke a few moments on what it is to recycle, mentioning how "...their Executive Director, Insa Reipen, takes it so seriously!" "She takes it to heart, like a movie star!" "It all started on a small scale, with limited space, and not very many people involved and there were only two containers in the early 90s.", stated Michael O'Hare, former board member for Recycle Utah. "These containers were across from where Frontier Bank is - on the corner. It grew and as I got involved with Recycle Utah. Recycling is and always will be the right thing to do - keep recycling!" Leslie Thatcher introduced the panel - Diane Foster, Dorothy Adams, Mike Lures, Brett Mickelson, and Brent Giles. Discussion of support, what's happening in the county with recycling, and new programs and needs to improve recycling were discussed...such as more ways to take care of electronic recycling. There were comments on the need for a larger - lined - landfill. "The area is inconvenient to take recycling to..." was a comment made regarding the 3-Mile Canyon landfill. Following the panel discussion, Insa Reipen introduced Board members, founders and staff. "Recycling is important to me and I believe is important to our community!" There are so many ways to recycle. The 5,000 square foot facility is open year round except on major holidays. They serve the community throughout Summit County. Remember...Recycling "empowers people to lead sustainable lives!" For more information: www.recycleutah.org Photos by Cheryl Ovard, SCN Editor Saturday's Friends of the Animals enjoyed celebrating the 1st Anniversary of the Friends of the Animals Ranch H68 L46 neutered, are taken to the adoption center hoping to find a new home for them. In 2010 alone there were about 1000 pets. This year marks the 21st year of this gratifying Isolated T-Storms Sunday H66 L46 Partly Cloudy service. Thanks to all who helped make it possible, and to those who helped organize and carry out the BBQ held last Saturday. Remember To Fly It Proudly! Tim Douglas and helpers made sure the meat was cooked to perfection, and salads, fruit and desserts in abundance was enjoyed by all. Watermelon was perfect (see photo of the week in the SCN). Tours were also enjoyed by visitors and FOA staff, and youth volunteers were special guides for this event. The weather was great and the turnout super! Youth and adults alike visited while eating the great food and programs. Special thanks to the hard work of Claudia McMullin, Julie Hooker, The Barking Board and the many others who helped to make the day's activities enjoyable. One of the favorite highlights was when two of the Summit County Sheriff's Department demonstrated their trained police dogs and the sled dog run with the children was another highlight of the day. (see additional articles about the police dogs and sled dog run inside the News). Founded in 1990, the Friends of the Animals Utah (FOAU) started its non-profit organization in Park City, Utah. The staff and volunteers are dedicated to helping out with Furburbia, its adoption center located in the Tanger Outlet Mall, and now is proud to be able to use the facility properly named Rescue and Rehab Ranch.
