Fourteen girls coming from all corners of Summit County and one Salt Lake County were chosen to become "one" in playing championship fast pitch softball. They started the season with a tournament in Salt Lake area — Salt Lake Firecracker Tournament, winning couple of games there. The girls are also playing on their own school's softball teams, and they did not even know some of the other players who are now their teammates! Coach Chester, PCHS Head Softball Coach, stated, "Although they have been only to two weeks of daily practices, there is some good talent here, and it will take a good 4-6 months to get together. Today is when we let their talents come through, set reasonable goals and expectations, and keep working on them as a team. It WILL happen — but will take time." In the softball game # 3 played at Park City Sports Complex, "...they showed their tenacity, and their determination to not give up on themselves. They were down in the 3rd inning 10-1, but kept the game going by not quitting. They hit some good balls and brought a couple home for the count! They did not give up when they were so "down"!" Coach exclaimed. Although they did not win, he and the other Coaches, Alissa Smith and Joe Nichols, were all proud of how they stuck with it! Coach Chester has been leading the Silver Strikers for two years, but the older team has had many move on to college and other walks of life, and he is not concentrating his efforts on the younger team. "You will grow," he told the girls. When you go back to school this year and back to your individual teams, hopefully you will become the leader who will help the rest of the team by influencing them with what you have learned this summer." That is his ultimate goal... and then next year — well they will once more join hands as the Silver Strikers once more, as a solid team of friends and comrades with the same goal in mind...to play the best they can in fast pitch softball tournaments. After they have the 50-75 games "under their belts" they will look and act as a unit — be a team — and win more games! That is how we are going to succeed. The girls this year are McKaye Woolstenhulme, Dom Harry, Jade Snyder, McKaylie Rex, Madie Harry, Natalie Nichols, Haylie Hardman, Kylee Jo Stokes, Paige DaBell, Hailey Eskelson, Cass Chester, Casey Picillo, Katelyn Rogers, Abbie Towery, with Kalee Chester acting as their Team Manager. Congratulations girls. Hope you have had fun — starting with the Parade down Old Main Street in Park City, playing the tournament games, and attending the "All Star" game on Thursday afternoon! The 2010 14u Team of Silver Stars is sponsored by Geary Construction of Coalville, Utah. The World Series Triple Crown is one of the largest girls fast pitch softball tournaments in the Nation. The majority of the teams come from Nevada, California and New Mexico. It is an exciting tournament to watch hundreds of girls and their families can be sen for the three-week period all around Summit County at the baseball / softball parks in all ends of the county.
