We certainly aren't the best of farmers at our house. In fact, my father would probably give us a D if he was grading us. Even so we do get enjoyment from watching the little green sprouts come up and mature into something edible. Thinking back to my childhood on the farm, things haven't changed at all. The weeds still seem to come up faster than what we planted and when your working on your knees and locate another rock — its isn't just "ouch" you hear. In our garden the words come out a teeny bit stronger than that. Getting down to business: We had a nice group in attendance on Wednesday. I got 55 cents an hour on my first job, worked 6 days a week, 7 hours a day for 42 hours, all regular pay, no such thing as the 40 hour week them days. Even then, I managed to build a savings account. Of corse I was living at home which was 15 miles from town where I worked and the round trip bus fair was 25 cents a day. We weren't penny pinchers by any means but we certainly did watch where we spent it. Gas was 22 cents a gallon and us young kids had to pool our money to fill the tank when we went on any kind of outing. Those were the days. We tent to remember the good times and forget the trials but that is life. Did you ever file for unemployment? Abner did and here's his story: "You got fired because you took your work home with you?" questioned the astonished agent at the unemployment desk. "I don't think they can do that. Didn't they encourage you to do that?" "No, they were pretty upset." The applicant responded. "You see, I worked in the local bank." Have a safe and happy week and we all will meet again soon. really shy guy. Boy, have I had to change my opinion 'cause he is one funny fellow when he chooses to be. We enjoyed hearing from him about the happenings in him and Joan's lives. We enjoyed your talk and glad to see you both coming out regularly. Thanks, Dwayne. We will be visiting Dean Schulte's High Uinta's Taxidermy shop Thursday, May 20. The deadline for reservations is past, of course and guess what. We have had so much interest and reservations made by the number so we will have to split the group in order for everyone to tour the facilities. Please be at the center shortly before 11 a.m. and we plan on eating at Denise's Home Plate at 12:15 p.m. I imagine you have been watching TV and reading about the political news. It is important that we learn all we can in order to vote for the best candidates. We will soon be having politicians coming in to talk to us and we need to be considerate and make them feel welcome. Please pay attention when they are speaking. School will soon be out for the summer and the young people will be looking for work. It's not the easiest thing to do these days.
