Show Senior & HEALTH News PAGE A6 MAY 22, 2009 Summit County News North Summit Summit County Health Dept. One death reported with the Swine Flu in Salt Lake Senior Citizens by Louise Wallace President Thomas S. Monson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints tells us, “It takes courage to face the trials and temptations of this life.” He was talking to the young people but it is also true for us of the older generation as well. He also says, (and I agree) “It would help perhaps, if we knew how it would all end.” It surely would help me if I knew how this report would end, maybe then it would be easier to get started. We had a nice week and were ever so happy to welcome Mattie and Philip Wood back from Texas for the summer. Philip hasn’t changed at all but I think Mattie looks younger than she did when they left last fall. We’re glad they like it here and look forward to them continuing to call Coalville their home for the summers. We also enjoyed having David and Paul Donaldson with us on Friday. They brought pictures of their recent ocean cruise and told us all about it. They did a lot of sight seeing and said the food was out of this world. Probably gained a few pounds to prove it. The pictures of going through the Panama Canal were most interesting to me. Almost made me want to do some traveling. Note, I said almost but not quite. However, I do have my passport ready if I change my mind. Russell Whittaker brought his mother, Wanda out from Sandy for a visit on Saturday. Wanda looks and feels good except for the broken wrist she is sporting. She broke two bones when she was getting out of bed and got tangled up in her blanket. It’s in a cast now and she is finding out how many things she can’t do with only one hand. Besides that, it hurts. Boy, one cannot be too careful, even little things can trip you up. She is thinking positive as always, and sends her love to all. Mother’s Day is past and Memorial Day is just ahead so we know it has been and will be a busy time for Cindy McGhee. Even so, she took time out to deliver to my home a tube of Dr. Hoy’s ointment she just got in. Rose and I have been doing yard work, and boy, did I need it for my aches and pains. This is not the kind of work I could do without the soothing effect of this ointment on these old bones. So “Thanks A Lot” Cindy, for your concern. School will be out this week. We congratulate the students who will graduate Friday. We wish them well in their future endeavors. I wonder how many will go on to Subscribe To he Summit County News! 336-5501 college, how many will find jobs, and how many will marry and start their own families. It will take courage to make these decisions, but it is a great world we live in. This poem “Why Worry About Tomorrow?” by Clay Harrison makes sense. ‘Why worry about tomorrow and the rising of the sun, or anguish over past mistakes that can never be undone? Why waste life’s precious moments on things that bruise the heart, when today is ours to fashion into a work of art? Today comes but once, my friend, it never can return… So use it wisely while you can, there’s a lesson you may learn. Let history record the past and tomorrow come what may, and be content to do your best with what you have today.” Have courage my friends, and I’ll see you next week. Coalville Health Center 142 South 50 East Coalville, UT 435-336-4403 9-5 M-F, 9-12 Sat. The Health Department reported that a 22-year old man died Wednesday morning from the Swine Flu. The man was not in good physical condition, as he was known to have chronic medical problems, including dealing with obesity. He was considered by the Health Department as being a high risk case before he contracted the flu. Sundwall stated that the flu is more likely to be a threat to people with other conditions. Summit County has reported that over 30 cases still are current in the area, and 122 cases are numbered in the state of Utah. There are nearly ten thousand cases in the world, with nearly 6,000 known cases in the United States alone. Utah has had a great deal of coverage with the Swine Flu being so concentrated in the Summit County area, namely Park City. It was believed that the reason was caused by so many students traveling to Mexico during the spring break time, and brought it back to Park City where the outbreak occurred. The first confirmed Swine Flu case was in Park City from a student in the Park City Schools. The schools in Park City closed to help keep the flu from spreading, but opened in time for the high school to be able to participate in Region and State sports. The Summit County Health Department is still monitoring the situation, and will keep the Summit County News abreast of any other information pertinent to the results in Summit County. Go Classifieds!
