School opened Wednesday, May 6, and most of the class is missing due to many who went out of town when the schools closed. “There were only 4 on our bus this morning”, said a young sophomore, “there are usually 35 - we should have driven and saved gas for the bus!” Students gather outside for class - teacher and administration glad that school is back on track so they do not have to go longer into the summer to make up days! “Park City Baseball team wins 1st place in Region 10” - stated athletic director, Doug Payne. They have not accomplished this since 2002. This would not have been possible had the Summit County Health Department and other officials in the district made the decision to allow school to open! The game was played May 5 in Uinta - and the game was “winner take all! Park City and Uintah were tied for Region, and thus this game was not played as a double header. Updated: Tuesday, May 5, 2009 3:30 p.m. - as is listed in the pcschools.com website: Following recommendations by the Summit County Health Department and based on new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, schools in the Park City School District will now reopen on the following schedule: • Park City High School, the Learning Center, and the district office will open Wednesday, May 6, 2009 • All remaining schools in Park City School District will reopen on Thursday, May 7, 2009. • Sporting and other extracurricular activities may resume immediately. All employees associated with the high school, learning center, and district office are to report to work on their normal schedule beginning Wednesday. All others are to resume their normal work schedules on Thursday. Classes at Park City High School will resume Wednesday, May 6th, and will follow a Red-Day schedule. Students will not be penalized academically if circumstances prevent them from returning on this day; however, please try your best to return to school as quickly as possible. Also, you will be given reasonable to time to make up missed assignments when you return. If you have particular questions, you can contact your teachers via e-mail. School buildings and buses have been sanitized. District officials will continue to monitor the situation and communicate with local public health officials. According to the CDC: • Students, faculty, or staff with influenza-like illness (fever with a cough or sore throat) should stay home and not attend school or go into the community except to seek medical care for at least 7 days even if symptoms resolve sooner. • Students, faculty, and staff who are still sick 7 days after they become ill should continue to stay home from school until at least 24 hours after symptoms have resolved. • Students, faculty, and staff who appear to have an influenzalike illness at arrival or become ill during the school day should be isolated promptly in a room separate from other students and sent home. • Parents and guardians should monitor their school-aged children, and faculty and staff should self-monitor every morning for symptoms of influenzalike illness. Updates and Notices • The prom has been rescheduled for May 30th at La Caille •No decision has been made on how or if the missed school days will be made up. • Community Education Leisure Learning classes are postponed until school is open. Contact Jane Toly for more information: 435-731-0025 • Parley’s Park After School/Camp Hawk registration night is postponed until Thursday, May 14, at 6 p.m. in the lobby of Parley’s Park. • The Aquatic Center and pool are closed until the resumption of normal District operations. • AP tests will be rescheduled only for days that school is not in session. Previously scheduled AP tests will resume the day students return to school. Students will need to be prepared to return and take the previously scheduled tests unless they are notified otherwise. • Adult High School and Adult ESL will not be held until Monday, May 11. Please resume your classes on May 11. • Music in the Parks for our K-7 schools has been cancelled.
