Show PAGE A8 High Mountain Riders organizing… fun for everyone - check this out! BY DOUG SWENSON President High Mountain Riders For the past fall and winter season, a group of horse lovers, from Coalville, Wanship, Morgan, Heber and Park City have been forming a new riding club. Our main goal with this was to first declare our mission, get enough people interested to put ideas together and from there we started to have meetings on a monthly basis. Right from the start everyone wanted to trail ride, network, and compete locally with their horses as to save money on gas and not have to travel to do this. Through the winter we had meetings every 2nd Tuesday at the Spring Chicken Inn at 7 p.m. We have a base of people now and have obligated to making this work. We have spoken to some County and Coalville city officials that have expressed an interest in supporting a riding club as there has not been one (except for 4-H) in the Coalville or Heber area for many years. We will be holding practices at the Coalville arena once a week through the summer and also hold all our MAY 8, 2009 Summit County News shows at the Coalville arena. The trail rides will all be set up and managed by our club and we will ride for the most part this first year right from this area as most of us from here already know the trails. We plan to have fun events with our trail rides like poker rides-scavenger hunts and other fun things to make it even more enjoyable. Anyone that is a club member will get a discounted fee for trail rides and also shows. We will also have year end awards for club members, competitors, trail riders and volunteers. Our shows this year will consist of a variety of gaming (timed events) and show events. Instead of asking for sponsors at a GOLD-SILVERBRONZE level as most all rodeo and other riding clubs do we are just asking for support of any kind from local residents, businesses, and horse lovers, so we can proceed with this club and grow into a nice family oriented club with trail riding-competitions- social events and whatever else we decide to do as a riding club. Our name is “High Mountain Riders” our mission is to enjoy horses-and all that goes along with horse own- The town of Henefer is accepting bids on a manlift. The manlift will be sold as is. Volunteersgatekeepers-announcers-PRfundraisers Cary Son, Farm Program Specialist of USDA’s Farm Service Agency in Utah reminds producers that as of April 27th, enrollment in the Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) program is underway. ACRE is a provision of the 2008 Farm Bill. “The Average Crop Revenue Election program is an innovative alternative to the traditional farm safety,” Son said. “This new option presents an opportunity for producers to review both programs and decide which one will work best for their operation.” Producers have until Aug. 14, 2009, to make their decision for the 2009 crop. USDA will not accept any late-filed applications. Producers who elect the ACRE program for a farm agree to: forgo counter-cyclical payments; accept a 20-percent reduction of the direct payments; and accept a 30percent reduction in loan rates for all commodities produced on the farm. Commodities eligible for ACRE payments are wheat, corn, grain sorghum, barley, oats, upland cotton, long grain rice, medium and short grain rice, peanuts, soybeans, sunflower seed, canola, flaxseed, safflower, mustard seed, rapeseed, sesame seed, crambe, dry peas, lentils, small chickpeas and large chickpeas. There are many possibilities at your request. Call Jill 435-657-1897 The ACRE program was created in the 2008 Farm Bill to give producers an option in lieu of traditional countercyclical payments. Producers may elect and enroll in ACRE for the 2009 crop year even if they have already accepted advance direct payments under the Direct and Counter-cyclical Program. To elect ACRE for a farm, producers must complete Form CCC-509 ACRE, which irrevocably elects ACRE for the farm through crop year 2012. Form CCC-509, the contract to participate in ACRE, must then be completed each year the producer intends to participate and receive benefits.
