Show Around The County AUGUST 15, 2008 PAGE A3 Summit County News Teen Center a Popular Place Tire Blowout Causes One Truck/Trailer Rollover CHERYL OVARD SCN Editor Driving to Texas with a twoday stopover with family and friends in New Mexico, a Price couple’s trailer had a split tire blowout. The driver thought he had run over a trucker’s tire piece, as he could see it in the mirror - but as his trailer and pick-up hit the rough edging on the freeway about 1/2 mile from the Wanship exit on I-80 westbound, the trailer started to tip, pulling the truck with it. “It kinda went over in slow motion - pulling first the trailer then the truck to its side,” the driver - grandpa to the two girls he had with him, ages 10 and 11. He and his wife were taking the children with them to Dallas, TX. The trailer was a total loss, and Ronnie Moore commented that “it was not a very stable trailer - just fell to pieces!” The truck was also towed, and they were going to await family to drive from Price to pick up the belongings in the trailer and check out the truck to see if it was going to be able to be repaired. “The trip has been cancelled,” stated the driver - still shaken up. “We will see what the insurance will do for us before we make further plans with the girls.” “They were all wearing seat belts,” investigating UHP Trooper Steven Leatham said. “Fortunately there were no serious injuries.” The accident occurred on Monday, Aug. 11, in the afternoon around 2 p.m. Copper Plate Winners Announced Something new this year - and a popular attraction which brought more teens to the fair with something on “their level” to do (most adults don’t even know how to text!). The Summit County Fair offered two days of fun and entertainment with Wii games, texting competitions, hoop shoot, and just having fun - for teenagers only! Those who played the games got a chance to put their names into the bucket for a drawing, and prizes were awarded on the last day of the fair. Two Wii’s were the top prizes! The booth was sponsored by Allwest, and Phil Marchant was having as much fun as the teens as he helped them with questions and what to do for the day. A fun time was had by all teens as they tried their hand ad Wii games, hoop shoot and text messaging competition. It was great for the kids, and those who Go Classifieds! Winner of Drawing: Hayden Lewis (Nintendo Wii System) Bicyclist Hit by Kamas Resident Left Bike in Ruins Alexander Jason Barto Trying to run down a cyclist on his bike, Alexander Jason Barto, of Kamas, was driving near Mirror Lake when he yelled at him, then knocked him down and smashed his bike with his truck. Barto appeared in court on Aug. 11 to hear the charges made against him of aggravated assault. No comments were available as yet. His attorney, Greg Skordas, said the police reports were under investigation. The Home Arts Exhibits were placed carefully in the Quonset Hut for all to see, and blue ribbons, red ribbons, white and green (4-H) could be seen placed by each item. Judges once more had the difficult task of selecting the Copper Plate Winners for 2008. Each of the items brought in were judged, and put out for the public to see. A Big Thank You to each person who entered and congratulations on a job well done. Everyone who entered is a winner! A special thank you to The Summit County Sheriff’s Department and Tony Ewell, who spearheaded the preparation of the cases and set them out for the items to be displayed by inmates from the prison. They painstakingly washed the glass and cases, and arranged them for the exhibits. The sirens blowing and horns bleating announced the end of the parade for 2008 - but they will begin ideas for next year - tomorrow! North Summit School District is accepting applications for a part time secretary at North SUmmit Elementary School. Position will be 7 1/2 hours per day 2-3 days per week. The initial investigation revealed that the drugs were being delivered to Minnesota. A multi-jurisdictional DEA task force conducted a controlled drug delivery in Minnesota where it successfully arrested three additional suspects. This case is an ongoing investigation with the DEA’s office. |
