SSES Students Bid Farewell To The 2007-2008 School Year South Summit Elementary students remember the 20072008 school year as a very wet, cold, and snowy year. They loved the snow but wished for warmer weather when May arrived.May is always a very busy month. This year the school moved to online CRT testing for grades 35. The students were very excited about testing for three reasons. First, some of the tests were given on the computer. Second, the students were excited to “PAWS” to read, listen, and think so they could earn a blinking, green and white magnetic paw. Third, the students were ready to demonstrate their newly acquired grade level knowledge. The students and school as a whole did an awesome job with the testing. With the completion of CRT testing, other year-end learning activities began. Included in these activities were field trips, guest speakers, plays and puppet shows, mini-mall, field day, student leader luncheons, awards, BBQ’s and much, much more. May went by so fast that even the youngest students were amazed at how fast the last day came. Kamas Valley Nursery Donates Memorial Tree The South Summit Elementary PTO arranged with Kamas Valley Nursery and Action Landscaping to have a tree planted as a memorial to Michael Griffin. Michael attended South Summit Elementary and was an eighth grade student at South Summit Middle School when he died in early November. Mr. Griffin and his family chose a Canadian Red tree to be placed on the hill just west of the elementary school. This beautiful tree has green leaves and white blossoms in the spring and red leaves beginning mid June. A plaque will be placed at the foot of the tree that the PTO has donated.
