These great treats will help you stay in shape. We are talking about strawberries. Full of flavor, strawberries are an excellent source of fiber – the part of plants that cannot be digested. Fiber-rich foods will make you feel full longer, and feeling full is essential to burning off calories and being fit. Apart from fiber, strawberries provide potassium, folate and vitamin C. And although you can find them in stores year-round, now is the perfect time to enjoy these aromatic fruits fresh from the patch. Include strawberries in your menu and help your loved ones get important nutrients by mixing berries with summer treats everyone loves: • Layer strawberries with whipped cream, shortcake and mint leaves and for a quick and elegant dessert. • In those hot summer days, grab a bowl of fiber-rich ice cream like Blue Bunny® Double Strawberry Light (3 grams of fiber per 100 calories) and top it with fresh strawberries. • Serve a cool strawberry drink loaded with antioxidants. Oh, I’ll catch a game here and there, but I haven’t followed the team through a season since the days of Stockton and Malone. But when they make it to the finals, I pull out the Jazz flag, dig out my Jazz shirt and become a fan. I can’t quote any statistics and don’t claim to know much about the guys on the team, but I do recognize the names and I can recognize most of the faces. It’s been exciting watching Boozer, AK, D-Will, Okur, Korver and the rest of the team play. It’s been fun growling at the refs when they’ve made seemingly obvious bad calls against the Jazz. I’ve held my breath as the Jazz players have shot from the free-throw line, trying to will the ball into the hoop. And I’ve held my breath as the Rockets, then the Lakers, shot their free throws, willing them to miss. There have been some amazing shots, some fantastic plays. And there have been some stupid mistakes, some obvious goofs. But it’s been watching the Jazz, especially when they we’re clicking. When Boozer and Williams execute a successful pic-n-roll, when Okur or Korver are passed the ball and make what looks to be an impossible three-point shot, when AK catches the ball and grabs the hoop as he dunks the ball, or when Brewer makes a fast break and heads for the basked, it’s just plain fun to watch. It was tough to watch that last game in LA, as the game was pushed into overtime. It looked like the Jazz just might pull it out. Then to watch that last game on our home court as the Lakers clearly out-played the Jazz in the first half, only to have the Jazz rally and come so close in the last quarter, was heart-breaking. We can say there were bad calls. We can wonder why the Jazz didn’t have the energy in the first half of the game, as they did in the second half. We can say that the LA Lakers wouldn’t be the team they are without Kobe Bryant. We can come up with all kinds of reasons the Jazz are out of the play-offs. But we can also say that next year, with another season under their belt, the Jazz will be a formidable opponent on the court! And I might even become a full-fledged fan, not just a fair weather follower. Way to go Jazz!
