Members from Utah’s 28 County Farm Bureaus met Nov. 15-16 to select leaders for the state’s largest farming and ranching organization. Delegates re-elected Tooele County hay farmer Leland Hogan to his 4th two-year term as president of the Utah Farm Bureau Federation. Rulon Fowers, a hay grower from Hooper, Weber County, Rex Larsen, a cattle rancher and grain farmer from Spanish Fork, Utah County, and Edwin Sunderland, a dairy farmer and turkey producer from Chester, Sanpete County were all reelected to two-year terms on the Utah Farm Bureau Board of Directors. Garrick Hall, a dairyman from Cove, Cache County, was selected as the new chairman of the Young Farmer and Rancher Committee (YF&R). Jackson and Oralie Smith, dairy farmers from Lewiston, Cache County, Kyle and Shelly Matthews, grain and forage growers from Grantsville, Tooele County, Russell and Valerie Spencer, owners of a fertilizer application business from Duchesne, Duchesne County, were selected to on the state YF&R committee. Dustin and Harmony Cox, owners of a hay brokerage business in Alton, Kane County, were re-elected to the YF&R committee. Waneta Fawcett, who with her husband operates a sheep operation in Henefer, Summit County, was elected to the state Women’s Committee. The Utah Farm Bureau is the largest general farm and ranch organization in the state with more than 21,000 member families. Its mission is to improve the net income of the state’s farmers and ranchers and the overall quality of life in the state and nation through political action, educational and informational means. The Resort will open once conditions permit. “We always strive to provide our guests with the best skiing and riding experience, and unfortunately we have not received the cold temperatures and natural snowfall that we need to open on our scheduled day,” said Peter Curtis, president and general manager of Park City Mountain Resort. “So far we’ve made 30 acre feet of snow, and ideally we would like to have 70 acre feet of snow on the ground for optimal conditions. “We are hopeful that within the next week we will get the temperatures needed so we can open by Thanksgiving weekend. Regardless, the Alpine Coaster will open for the season on Wednesday, Nov. 21.” According to the WeatherBank forecast, a cold front will drop into the Park City area on Monday ushering in a much colder air mass. A chance of snowfall is predicted for Monday through Wednesday of next week with temperatures mostly in the 30s. Hours of Operation are as follows: Alpine Coaster: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Gorgoza Park, owned by Park City Mountain Resort, will announce its official opening date in the coming weeks.
