Show Opinion Opinion Page Page Page A2 Just a Thought The Summit County Bee November 30, 2007 BY CHERYL OVARD Go Hug Someone You Love Emma Rose d’Hulst became a part of our family three years ago - plays with cousin Hannah Anderson. It is possible to build a family with people that you love! There are so many children and teenagers who need to know that they mean something to someone in this world, and no matter where one turns - there is another waiting for that same love. The child who has been abandoned by parents or who, for some unknown circumstances, cannot take care of these children which have been put into foster homes, have a better chance to succeed than those who live with parents who do NOT give love. Stories are written and told often about the family that “took in just one more” – when it seemed that the things were going just fine at the present. When a child has been “rescued” from a life of the streets and drugs, their personalities change. When a child has not received any love and then they are put into a home full of love – and hugs – and kisses – they grow and change rapidly becoming a totally different person. Personality changes, health changes, their eyes are vibrant and glow with light, and they also - in return – give the most precious gift back — that hug for someone they grown to love, too! Too often people think that it would be hard on their “own” children to take in another person – raise them – even for a short time – and make them a permanent part of the family. The time spent in a home filled with love is the best healing “medicine” a child can receive when the road they were following seemed bleak and without anyone who cared. This is the season to dig a little deeper into your hearts and share love with someone – even if only for a short time. The rewards are far beyond the wildest dreams for the recipient, and very rewarding for a lifetime of friendship and love. Stories about these families are many, but not told often enough. A baby – a youth – a teen – they all need love to survive. We, as families, can give so much, and make a difference in their lives.
