Porter Carter, a mighty fine sheriff for about 14 years, has been forced by ill health to resign. His spot will not be easy to fill. He has accomplished more good with less publicity know-ledge-a- nd - its than most sheriffs intheState-a- nd much more than the great majority of people would guess. Incidentally, I may be the first Independent ed Repub- lican publisher in the state to suggest that President Nixon is doing a very poor job, and that if he were to come up today for he would be No. 10 on my ballot. THE OLD HABIT of putting off until tomorrow again brings grief and regret. For years I have planned to do a feature story on Earle Reseigh, the Park City grocer who died last week. 1 procrastinated. Now it's too late. Flowers to the livingare much better than those to the dead. Earle was the most courageous man I have known. He spent more time in the hospital and went through more hell on earth with a series of occurrences of ill health than any person most of us can Imagine. IT WOULD BE very interesting to see the statistics on the number of times Earle Reseigh was in major surgery. The figures MUST set a record. And from every visit to the hospital Earle returned to his place behind the counter with a Woodland News Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hanson erf Provo and small son visited with the Lloyd Clawsons over the weekend. All of the family members of the Mallory's met at the home of Mrs. L. R. Mallory Saturday and had dinner there. Carols brother, Douglas and family are moving to the northwest and Jt was a farewell party for their family. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Thacker and family have now moved up to the Diamond Bar X Ranch for the summer, where Roy is employed. The Woodland Scouts went camping F riday afternoon to enjoy the opening of the fishing season. Their scoutmaster, Max Williard took them and they enjoyed a day of fishing but returned home, Saturday, wet but happy. Last week at MIA a good time was had by all as everyone gathered at the barbecue fireplace after classes and had a hamburger fry. They all said goodbye to Arthur Joe who left last week to return to his home in New Mexico. We are proud of our young people from the Ward who grad- uated from High School last week. Congratulations to Blain Williams, John Moon, Jessie Moon and Jeff Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Gines and family were Sunday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ellsworth Glues. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Moon went to Provo last Thursday evening to attend a dinner to honor the seniors at the BYU of which their daughter was a guest of honor. Colleen will graduate from the BYU soon and she is to be congratulated.
