The turnover rate in North Summit school district during 1969-7was 40.6, 0 Teacher shortages experienced in Utah and other states in the years after World War H are rapidly being replaced by teacher surpluses. This was the conclusion reached by Utah Foundation, the private research organization in a study of teacher supply and demand in Utah. Most of the new teachers hired by Utah school districts last year were employed to fill vacancies resulting from the turnover of staff rather than the creation of new teaching posts. In 1969-7- 0 the number of teaching positions in Utah Increased by only 223, a rise of 1.7. On toe other hand, 1,603 new teachers were hired to fill vacancies created by turnover of staff. These figures exclude 673 teachers who transferred to other districts within the state last year. The Foundation report shows that North Summit school district employed a total of 32 professional school personnel This represented a in 1969-7- 0. decrease of one in the size of the professional staff for the year.
