Frank Cattelan tells about the tourists who were headed for Idaho from the East. They had gone through Evanston, Logan Canyon, on to Tremon-to- n, took a wrong turn and came back through Ogden to Echo! Then there was the man who was in Echo at I a.m. last week enroute to Los Angeles. Only he had come through this neck of the woods once already -- at 10 p.m. He had gone through Salt Lake, back towards Ogden and up Weber Canyon, a complete circle In the middle of the night Couldnt even enjoy the scenery. Let s face if. rm a football bug. When the man is watching a football game he must not be disturbed. Except to eat, and that at the teevee table. In fact, this has become so bad with me that I have made out a list of things for Ify Lady Fair Louise to tell people about why I must not be disturbed. This is a partial reading, to be used either at the front door or on the telephone: - Sorry, be isnt here. He went to Evanston to buy some goats. He's going Into the mohair busi- - Hes down in the sub-basem- dungeon counting my money. So sorry you missed him. He went to Chapultepec after a small shipment of heroin. He's trying to explain to the Governor that if be keeps on kissing admirers in Harlem he will get mora than brainwashed. No, that isnt Mac in the reclining chair in front of the teevee. He fixes up a dummy to fool people so he can sneak out. Why, I think he's in Salt Lake City. He has some hare-brain-ed idea that the city should use the same marking as the cigar et packages, you know, a big sign for the babes in certain areas to wear around the neck: "Caution: I may be Injurious to your health." If he's here I cant find him. I've been trying togethlmto take out the garbage, but he's saving it for when we have the bomb attack. Did you try the attic in the shop? Listen over there for a clickety-clac- k clank clank. He's running off a few five-doll- ar bills. Sorry, kiddies, lfackie cant come out to play. He has to make the beds. Oh, yes, of course. How nice to see you. But where would we keep two Clydesdales in this ' itty bitty house? I believe he went to Park City to see about opening a liquor store with Nevada whisky. You'll find him in a cave up on RossleHllL Well, I'll tell you. He's with Senator Frank Moss, helping him with a new campaign song. They're working on a modern version of that old ditty: "Cigareets and whusky and wild, wild women-thedrive you crazy, they'll drive you Insane." He's digging up some old WCTU literature for the coming pro- family of Nampa, Idaho. Buster has, among his other duties for the city of Nampa, the distinction of being "keeper of the drunk tank.' He tells about the cowboy who rode Into Nampa last week and left his horse outside a bar while he went In to "tip a few." The horse got tired of wait ing so wandered into the street, only to be caught by a police officer who tied it to a parking meter. Finding the cowboy (feeling no pain by this time) the officer inquired as to what he Intended to do about the horse. 'I intend to pay for parking him," replied the cowboy, dropping a quarter into the parking meter. The horse stayed, the cow boy returned to his drinking and the officer left-- It seems the city of Nampa has an ordinance on books prohibiting riding a horse while drunk but nothing preventing him from 'parking" the horse while drinking! The City Fathers couldn't think of everything! By the way, you get up to 10 days In the cooler for 'drunken riding" if you are planning on riding to Nampa. Copper Strike Is Reflected in Employment Employment levels for Wasatch and Summit Counties are down from July primarily as a result of the reduced employment in the mining industry. Seasonal improvement Li noted among other segments of the economy as service, trade and construction showed gains, reported Duane Price, manager, Heber Office, Utah Department of Employment Security. Compared to August, 1966, the construction, mining and manufacturing segments of industry were off 19. Other industry groups showed a less marked change from last year. m Total wage and salaried employment for the two counties was 15 below August. non-far- 1966.
