Aerial stocking is an itegral part of the Division's Fisheries program. Without aircraft, many of Utah's high mountain lakes could not be stocked. The old days when a handful of lakes were stocked each year by men on horseback hauling fish in milk cans are gone forever. Today, one man and an airplane can accomplish in a few days what once must have taken many men several years. Larger Many of Utah's high mountain lakes arc located in narrow canyons or along cliff ledges sometimes ranging up to 11.000 feet. Maneuvering a heavily loaded airplane at low speeds in these areas is tricky business. High winds snd rough air, common in the high country, often make the flying extremely hazardous. But Division pilots Noble snd Chuck Morris have over 60 years of flying experience between them and almost make the job look easy. Through the aerial stocking program, the Division of Wildlife Resources has established one of the finest alpine fisheries in the country. Many lakes which once may have been barren, or at best marginal fisheries today provide quality fishing opportunities for the adventurous fisherman who takes to the high country.
