Show Coalville DUP (amp Hears lesson on History of Early Pioneer Music Prayer was given by Chaplain Edith Clark at the opening of the Daughters of Pioneers, June 1. The DUP lesson and history was given on Early Pioneer Music by Mrs. Judith A. Beard. The first LDS hymn book was compiled in 1835 by Emma Smith. Later published in England, 10,000 copies were sold, no music, just the words. More editions with more songs added were printed and leather bound pocket size in several different languages, twenty four editions and 54,000 copies sold mostly in the Britisli Isles. At the age of six, Mrs. Beard sang the Danish National Anthem for one week each night at the Tabernacle and at 12 years of age she would walk several blocks to attend rehearsals with her mother singing in the Tabernacle Choir. She trained and sang with the great leaders, McLellan Lund Evans and others. She related the early Coalville Choirs was led by J. W. Si mister, Joseph Barber, George Beard, David Barber and then Sister Judith Anderson Beard. She was responsible for the first operettas presented in the North Summit High, having taught music there for eleven years. Besides operettas and choruses she put on an annual Christmas Cantata with Wise Men and Madonna scenes. Also several Easter Pageants at the Rees farm opposite the Echo Reservoir. Song and instrumental contests were the thing at County Fairs. Coalville choir won a trophy, a large vase in 1914 from Park City who had won it in 1913. Joseph Barber of Evanston, Wyoming, had this trophy for some time. His son Winston Barber, put it in care of the DUP Museum at Coalville. A tribute and history of Mrs. Beard, composed by her daughter, Vera Beard, was given to the camp, by Vera Beard. This we surely appreciated and they filed with our histories. Mrs. Beard reminisced on her entire music career, they are so numerous that we couldn't quote them. The President of the DUP commented that words couldn't thank her enough for her great service as a leader in music. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Scates had their baby daughter named and blessed by LaVerl. Simmons. The name given her wasTorrie Scates. Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Rees also had their baby daughter named Heidi and given a blessing by LaVerl Simmons. Little Andrea Pace was named and given a father's blessing by her father. She is the daughter of Kerry and Deanna Pace. Sheldon Giles named his baby son Steven Paul and gave him a father's blessing Sunday. The Giles have another son Neil. THE SUMMIT COUNTY BEE 3 Coalville, Utaii Thursday, June 8, Brett Judd was baptised by his brother Jeffrey on Saturday evening and was confirmed by his father, Grant Judd Sunday during Fast and Testimony Meeting in the IloytsvilleWard. The daughter of Kerry and Deanna (IUonquist) Pace was given the name of "Andrea" by her father. A family dinner was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. LaMar Pace. Attending were the Pace children: Max and Milli- - 1972 son and Jerry and his fiance Karen Prescott; Kerry and Deanna Pace and daughter Andrea; Mr. and Mrs. Ken Blonquistand daughter Kenna Rae; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Roath; Monte and Trina Williams and daughter Tammy; Mr. and Mrs. Vern Blonquist; Mrs. Grace Pace; Mrs. Martha Mills; Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Peterson and children, Kim, Jeff, Paul, Ray Jan, Kent, Shari and Chad; Mr. and Mrs. Gary Pace and children Steven, Michael and Janae. taught. Also a picture of the Summit Stake Choir, in the Tabernacle in Aug. 1935 for two sessions at General Conference. President Heber Wilde was with them. A The meeting was under her direction to take the time she desired. Everyone who attended gave thanks to her for a wonderful time spent. Moroni explained the history of the beautiful scenery, much of which he had mapped for the government. Mike Best spent this week escorting a scout troop through Yellowstone Park, so couldn't accompany his family. Bruce Marchant, home from student teaching in Lehi, Kent and Danielle Marchant and son Brian, Jan and Lorie Glazier, and Robert Robison of Orem were visitors at the Moroni Marchants last week end.
