Show I I Gary and Vemett Jones Cited as Outstanding Logan Citizens The M.I.A. General Board announced that Gary D. and Vernett S. Jones of Logan were and presented a Master Golden Gleaner award recently Gary is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Garnet Jones of River-da- le letics, soloist in the Young Artists concert, and played Papa in the musical Papa and the Playhouse. He has been a Sunday School Genealogy teacher and Quorum Instructor, has danced in floor shows and participated in many Ward, en (former Henefer residents) and Vernett is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Spriggs of Coalville. Both earned the awards for activity and leadership in the church programs. Vernett is currently Primary chorister and a teacher , member of the Singing Mothers, and a Relief Society teacher in the Logan 20th Ward. She has served as M.I.A. president, councilor, teacher and Stake Gleanor leader; has written and directed roadshows, had, a singing role in Papa and the Playhouse, has been active in the girls' athletic program and served as a Young Marrieds officer. She has had parts in several Ward plays and has danced in Ward and Stake floor shows. Gary is currently Elders president and a home teacher in the Logan 20th Ward. He has been a MIA superlntendant, councilor, en leader, participated in roadshows and Ward plays, all Church ath Stake and Division Quartet Festivals. Both are also active in civic and community affairs in Logan. Vernett has served on the Cache Women's Legislative Council, has been president, director and secretary of the Jaycee Jills, which organization named her their 'Key Girl in 1966. She has won first place in three local speak-u- p contests and placed 2nd and 3rd in the State finals on two occasions. She compiled the narration and performed as one of a five member cast for the presentation of the Broadway musical 'Fiddler on the Roof, which was presented to many groups in northern Utah, Idaho, and in Salt Lake City for the General Authorities of the L.D.S. Church including President David 0. McKay. During the past year she served as an assistant to Uie Utah State University Boys Choir. She is currently chairman for selection of the Cache Valley 'Girl of the Year. Gary has served as treasurer and secretary of the Logan Jaycees and was named their 'Outstanding Jaycee in 1966. He was treasurer of the Utah Lions State Convention this year and is currently serving as Lions program chairman. He is listed in 'Outstanding Young Men in America and was a recent speaker at the State Workshop for County Treasurers and at a similar workshop for School District Clerks. He is a Certified Public Accountant with the firm of Clay Hancey in Logan. Last month the couple attended the National Jaycee Convention in Phoenix, Ariz. with their two boys, Steven and Jeff. i Pioneer Marker KAMA- SThe dedication of the Pioneer Marker, erected on the north east corner of the Peoa Ward Chapel grounds, under the direction of the Fort Sage Bottom Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, was held Sunday, July 14, following spec- ial services at the Sacrament meeting in the Peoa Ward Chapel. The dedicatorial prayer was given by EldenStembridge. The marker is a memorial of Fort Sage Bottom, which was erected by the early settlers as a protection from the Indians. An attractive addition to the marker is the mounting of the old Peoa School bell, which still and dear. DUP Dedicates rings loud All Around Kamas Valley Francis Items Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Crittenden have had as house guests the past week, Mr. and Mrs. Garland (Thora) Byrne and son Roger of Independence, Mo. They were returning from Los Angeles, Calif, where they attended the wedding of their daughter in the L.A. Temple on July 3, and decided on a visit with the Crittendens. Thora and Marvel are sisters. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Crittenden have had a real nice visit with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Stokes of Black Foot, Idaho. Coleen is also a sister and the daughter of Deatta Jorgenson who will return with them for a visit in Black Foot. Mrs. Walt Prescott was taken by ambulance to Heber hospital Sunday night, Leone is very ill. However, the extent of the illness has not yet been determined. Mr. G. Reed Merchant and sons presented a reel spiritual program at Sacrament meeting Sunday evening. All present came away feeling gratified and spiritually fed. This training is necessary before being commissioned. Sunday Sacrament services were very educational and inspiring. Lester F. Hewlet, President of the Temple choir presented an outstanding sermon while three boys from the Quorum real interesting gave talks. Those participating were Tommy Snyder, Mark Peterson and Craig Peacock. The musical entertainmentwas furnished by Mrs. Dale Mar-cha- nt and Mrs. Barbara Prescott. Elsie and Ted Frantz of Draper were dinner guests at the home of son and daughter-in-la- w Mr. and Mrs. Reed Frantz. The Messy Mixers H Club camp, got off to a good start this year. En route they visited Lake Louise and Finger Lake where they did some fishing and watched the boating and water skiing. She enjoyed the scenic beauty and was amazed at the number of salmon fishermen. During her visit she had the opportunity to witness one of the phases of the Mrs. Alaska contest which was on child communications. Laura Jane was one of the 10 children chosen from Romper Room School to take part and be interviewed by a contestant in connection with this contest. Under the direction of Mrs. Fairbanks, Laura Jane helped to decorate a cake for her daddy for Father's Day. Mrs. Jensen also visited with Douglas and Maxine Clark, former Coalville residents. Accompanied by their three children, Kent, Lane and Jana, they spent three days in San Diego where they visited the Zoo, Sea World and many other places of interest. The boys also rented a car and visited Tia-Jua- KAMAS VALLEY na, Mexico. They spent eight wonderful days in Hawaii where they enjoyed a boat tour in Pearl Harbor where they viewed the memorial plaques on the sunken battleships Utah and Arizona. They spent five days in Honolulu and also visited the Polynesian Cultural Center which is sponsored by the LDS Church and contains memorabilia from the early Polynesian societies. On the island of Maui they stayed in the Maul Hilton and enjoyed the beach and the ocean with the weather in the 80s. Back to Honolulu for a day, then they returned home via Los Angeles.
