Far be it for me to claim that I havo an ideal personality myself, but the young lady's suggestion started me to thinking, and, it gavo ms an idea of something to say today Do vo-.'- . know r. good disposition ij a wonderful asset for anyone to have. I'm sure that in business it's actually worth dollars and cents, r.udeness, ill temper and lack of proper tact drive more customers away rfrcm business 'establishments than high prices, even in these days of strict economy. And, inasmuch as everyone of us has something to sell we naturally do not want to drive our customers away with a disposition. Do we? In one of Kathleen Norriss articles. she tells of an incident that happened in New York City. A peasant women of foreign birth went into a !auk and asked the teller for some money. Sho had never deposited any with the bank, nor did she have any securities to offer, but she had heard oi others drawing money from banks nnd in all sincerety she expected to get some, thinking all she had to do tvau to ask for it. Now wo. think, could any women ha that stunid? and yet arent most of us just about that stupid when it comes to the bank of life? We want to draw out a sunny disposition, a pleasant personality, and weve never deposited anything in the bank to draw from. Having a pleasant sweet smile, and a disposition, a friendly personality isr.t something that cornea ju3t from wishing for it, but it ia as easy to acquire as anything we lrr.rr. to do. At first it seemed almost a hopeless task, but soon you learned to associate the words more rapidly, and one day, before you realized it, you were thinking, not in your native tongue, but in the adopted language. Or perhaps you remember when you first took up your trade, or learned to drive an auto, how slow and awkward you were. With your auto, you had to keep every one of senses alert. Your whole brain concentrated on the mechanics of driving. When you were about to stop, you said, I must put my foot on this pedal. I must quit feeding gas until you called definitely into mind all you hod to do, and in shifting gears it was the same thing. Now, you do these things automatically It's second nature. You can be busy talking to a friend and never give a thought, and you step on the starter, throw out the clutch, shift the gears, without once thinking what Fire Alarm Ore. While G. C. A sweet disposition will come to any of us who want it if were willing to get it through practice and effort. Make it a point to smilei when we meet someone. At first it will be clow and forced. Make it a point to speak pleasantly to everyone we meet It'll take forethought and effort at first, but gradually to smile on meeting folks after we vo. done it a few hundred times, and in time it will be as natural to smile os it is to shift gears, and pleasant words will come as easy and freely an your thoughts, the habit will grow . Itll be easier to speak with a kind pleasant voices and in timo it will be as natural to smile as it is to shift gears and pleasant words will come as freely as our thoughts. On the other hand, ever time we growl and grouch and speak harshly, we're entrenching that habit and making it a part of us. So a sweet disposition is merely a matter of habit. All we have to do is put the money in the bank of life and when we need it, we can draw it out. Now. as I said in the beginning, I don't claim to be a shining example myself, but the lady's suggestion that I speak on the subject provoked these thoughts, and so whether any of the rest of you try out my theory or not, I think I will try it myself for a while anyway and sec if it works.
