Show Utah's 1947 Vital Statistics Reveal Record Year iit Births Birth Kate High, Death Kate Low; Heart Disease and Cancer Lead in Death Causes Vital statistics for Utah for the year 191, recently released by the State Health Department gives the following information: Twenty-one thousands, four hundred births were recorded for i seven causes of death among the j first ten were: cerebral hemorrhage, hemor-rhage, nepritis, p r eraat u r e births, isease of infancy, dia- I betes and congenital maiforma- ! tions. i Ail- Deaths High Air deaths for the year amounted to 07. Of this amount! r2 were accounted for in the Uryce Canyon disaster. Mine and farm accidents took i 30 lives an ten persons were electrocuted. Twenty-six persons per-sons lost their lives by drownings; drown-ings; firearms accounted for 14; fires killed 19 and seven persons died of poisonings. No deaths were listed in two categories, "hunger and thirst" and "lack of care for infants." the year an all-time high for Utah'. Infant deaths in 1947 amounted amount-ed to 27.3 per 100 births. - Heart disease was at the head of the list in the cause of deaths.
