The association has been active along many and diversified lines, in promoting the industrial and financial welfare of the State, and many of its projects, carried through to successful issue, have done much to impress the people of Utah and the other States with the importance of the State as a commercial center. The Association has a number of highly successfulgiven excursions through the State, all or which have had a tendency to bring the commercial Interests of the different sections of Utah into a closer touch and better understanding. The Association has COMMITTEE OF FINANCE. conscientiously worked along the line of Western goods for Western peoL. R. Martlneau, chairman; Leon ple," and as a result much of the Sweet. O. R. The work of converting Utahns to the belief that Utah is the commercial center of the area having been given a good start, the Association has extended its zone of endeavor to the surrounding States. As a result, the organization has launched an enterprise that will be of great interest to the States of Colo rado, Wyoming. Idaho, Montana, Oregon- and Nevada, and that will bring great results in a business way to Utah. This enterprise is officially designated, The Six Slates Business Mens Excursion. Rates have been applied for on all the railroad lines reaching the States indicated, that will In themselves be an inducement to the merchants of that great area to visit Salt Lake. The officials dates of the excursion are June 25, 26, 27 and 28. It is understood that a rate of at least one fare for the round trip will bo granted by the roads interested, and indications are that between 10,000 and 15,000 people will be attracted to Salt Lake by the excursion. The entertainment of the visitors has been divided by the General Committee into different periods. June 25th will be officially designated as BUSINESS DAY; Tuesday, June 26th will be officially known as SALTAIR DAY; and Wednesday, June 27th, will bear the official title of LAGOON Inter-mountai- n DAY. At the Initial meeting of business men at the Commercial Club, held at the call of President O. H. Hewlett, of the Manufacture! and Merchants' Association, it was determined to raise at least $3,000 for the purpose of defraying the expenses of the excursion. A strong finance committee, the names of the members of which ,.vwiU appMr.tator.4n this artict-a- was appointed, and L. R. Martlneau was chairman. , named , At this meeting it was also decided s JhifL aa an inducement for the of surrounding States to place large orders with the local wholesale. Joliliers and manufacturers, a discount would be granted on all orders plant for immediate shipment This dismnnl system, which will be worked out by a strong committee, will bp an especially attractive feature for the merchants, as it will them a nulck return on all orders. thus paying their expenses on the trip. The committee on entertainment has not begun the task of arranging the details of the programme, but it is understood that nothing will he left undone to make the excursionists content with their stay in Salt Lake. A ball at Sakair has been as well as a banquet eithersuggested, there or at Lagoon. The plans of this committee are kept in the dark and It is understood that they have several surprises in store for the visitors. On Lagoon day, all of the merchants will be invited to participate in the festHliips. A baseball game has been suggested ns one of the features of that day. The headquarters of the Mannfac-tuivr- s and Merchants Association of Utah at 209-South West Temple street, will be the headquarters of all committees, and meetings of various committees are being held daily and nightly at. that place. The members of the Association realize that they have a big undertaking in hand and are not allowing anv grass to grow under their feet in the matter of arranging details and making preparations for the big event. The value to the business interests of the City and the State of such an excursion can never be calculated in dollars and cents. ' New trade relations will be formed between the merchants of Salt Lake and the merchants of other cities, and it is believed that thousands of dollars worth of goods that are now being purchased in markets other than those of this State will be diverted to Utah. The market of Nevada is an especially attractive field at this particular time, and the merchants of Utah are making a determined effort to reach that market with their wholesale lines. The committees that have been appointed to supervise the arangements for the big excursion are as follows: RECEPTION COMMITTEE. C. N. Strove!!, chairman: Joseph Scowcroft, Ogden; Louis Franklin, J.
