Show Try Your Bibles. A specialdispatch from Seattle, Wash, states that Mormon ism is ' taking deep root around Orting, in Pierce county, to such an extent that the "Methodist leaders, in their rage, are threatening to lynch the 4 lieutenants of Brigham Young." Those Methodist leaders should open their Bibles, if they happen to be familiar with that good old book, and listen to the plea of the eminent Jewish lawyer, Gamaliel, in behalf of persecuted Nazarene: "Refrain from these men, and let them alone; for if this counsel or this work be of man, it will come to naught. But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God." Besides, if there are Mormon missionaries in a Methodist, stronghold in Vfashiugton, they are there with as much right and propriety pro-priety as there are Methodist missionaries mis-sionaries in Utah, and Christians at least ought not to forget the golden rule. The victims of persecution are generally on the side of the truth;: but even though there be exceptionsv to this rule, persecutors always are: on the wrong side. Deseret.News 1 ; 1 |
