Show 1 IN UNION IS STRENGTH. J ' - TFe are sorry to note, in some of the Republican papers of the country, a tendancy to abuse .certain United States Senators because of their belief in tho policy of "Free Silver." Kvery individual is entitled to his opinions, whether they concur with those of the ma jority or the ' xmaority of his fellow citizens. When a public or a private citizen is sincere and conscientious in his belief, we always respect him for his convictions. If we differ from him and believe that he is wrong Ve try to present arguments showing show-ing his error, just'as we are prepared pre-pared to the arguments of those who differ from us in cur belief in the policy of Protection. Because we may differ with a man upon one subject is no reason why we should abuse him, calLhini names, or stigmatize : him as a bandit, a thug or a robber. There are sev-er..l sev-er..l -so-called "Silver" Senators who 'are strong and ardent friends of the American policy of Protection. Pro-tection. This fact alone is proof enough of their Americanism, even, though thqy should disagree with other Protectionists upon iacts relating to questions of finance. These Senators represent thcir constituents, thousands of people who are sterling and honest citizens, and who are entitled to I our . respect as such and for their : Americanism. By abusing them; vre may make them our enemies; vhereas we need their aid and advice in shaping the affairs of our Action for the common good for their welfare and for our welfare as the majority may decide It does no good to call uames. That 5g not argument. It is" school-fcoyidh; school-fcoyidh; Stop it. Economist. |
