There are many medicine that palliate anthma. There are few that do more than relieve for a time the oppreased breathing of the sufferer. There are few disease more troubleaome and more irritating than asthma. It interferes alike with businets and with pleasure. It prevents enjoyment of the day und makes the night a terror. A remedy for asthma would be hailed by thousands as the greatest possible possi-ble boon that could be offered them. There is a remedy for asthma. Dr. J. C. Ayer's Cherry Pectoral has cured hundreds of cases of this disease, and testimonials to its efficacy from those who have tried the remedy are multiplying with every year. The cases presented in the testimonials that follow, may be taken as exemplifying the quick and radical action oi this great remedy. "About a year ago. I canght a bad cold which resulted in asthma so severe that I was threatened with suffocation whenever 1 attempted to lie down on my bed. A friend recommending Ayer's Cherry Pectoral, Pec-toral, I began to take it, and soon obtained relief, and finally, was completely cured. Since then, I have used this medicine in my family with great success for co)ds, coughs, and croup." 8. Huttkr, Editor Rolink" (Polish), Stevens Point, Wis. -"While on the Gasconade River, Ga., I caught a severe cold which lesnlted la asthma. After taking doctors' prescriptions prescrip-tions for a long time without benefit, I ut length made use of Ayer's Cherry eecto-ral, eecto-ral, and was completely cured." H. . Kitcbell, Greenwood, Miss. "Same time since, Iliad a severe attack of asthma, accompanied with a bad cough and a general soreness' of the joiuts and muscles. I consulted physicians, and tried various remedies, but without getting any relief. Finally I took Ayer's Cherry Pec. toral, and in a very short time was entirely cured." J. K09EI.L3, Victoria, Tex. Dr. J. C. Ayer's Cherry Pectoral Is known the world over as one of the most effective medicines for the cure of coughs, colds, croup, whooping cough, asthma, bronchitis, bron-chitis, and all affections of the throat and lungs. It is not, as are so many cough medicines, a mere "soothing syrup," a temporary relief and palliative, but it i a radical remedy, dealing directly with disease and promptly healing it. In response to a wide demand Dr. Ayer's Cherry Pectoral is now put up in half size battles, sold at half orice so cents. More about Dr. Ayer's Cherry Pectoral in Ayer's C-urebook. John Provstgaard, Will Keele and James Wright went over to Spanish Fork last Friday night to attend the big dance in the pavilion, but they will not likely want to go again very soon, judging from an incident which happened to them on their way home They were in a buggy drawn by two spirited horses, and were coming home at a lively gait. About fifty yards this side of the bridge across Spanish Fork river they collided with another buggy containing two girls and two boys, which resulted In general smash up of both vehicles. The horses began kicking and added considerable to the damage already done by the collision. The tongue of the buggy of the trio frem Payson wa broken into three pieces, and the shafts of the other buggy were also broken. The Tayson boys removed the remains of their rig out of the road and proceeded homeward astride the horses, leaving the other un fortunates, who were supposed to be Springvilllans, mending their outfit It appears that John was considerably annoyed because the girls persisted in singing "Enjoy Yourselves,"during the unpleasant circumstance. Editor Independent ' ' As 1 am again at the seaside and have recently made the trip from San Bernardino, which is about 75 miles inland, perhaps the readers of The Independent may be interested in bearing something of the country coun-try lying here and there. A few days ago 1 boarded a Santa Fe train at San Bernardino, Bernar-dino, westward bound, my destination desti-nation being Santa Anna, ten miles inland from the coast at this point. Speaking of the country which lie between the first-named city and the coast raDge of mountains, I am sorry to say that its beau ty Is greatly marred mar-red by the loDg continued drouth. Old settlers declare that they have not known of such a dry year in this country for many, many years, and the vegetation surely shows the effects of it. There are thousands of acres of barley, which has been planted plant-ed for hay, burned completely up, and in consequence (of this, hay range9 from $20 to $30 per ton, and horses sell for $2.75 a head, and many are beiug; shot to save them from dying of starvation. star-vation. After passing through the farming district, we came to the low range of the coast hills and dowr what is called Sauta Ana canyon, through which tiow9 a river of the same name. This canyon seems U have been a favored spot with the children of sunny Spain who lived in this equally sunny cwuntry many jemsaKo. nciore mo gold nnnter, in his mad search for the shining metal, came to disturb them in their peaceful peace-ful possession of hill and dale. In this canyon spoken of can still be seeu numerous ruins once inhabited inhab-ited by the Spanish people. Here. oi a small, elevated plateau, overlooking the river and the valley, may be yen the thick mud walls, now crumtiRntf to decay, of what seems to have been half fort, half mission, from the appearance ap-pearance of the high mud wall whict has at one time inclosed the mission-like building with its-square its-square roof and numerous arches-where arches-where the people were wont to gather to perform the sacred rites-of rites-of their religion and be safely protected pro-tected from any chance invader. A little farther on in a little valley can be seen the decaying walls of a number num-ber of dwelling houses with a mud wall around them, also, I judge, far the same purpose of protection, and all of these ruins, both houses and fences are built of the same kind or mud. Last, but not least bv any means, in its interest for me.'is the little cometery on the hillside showing show-ing numerous wooden crosses, which proclaim to the world that these people, peo-ple, sleeping so calmly there-in that lonely place, died as they had lived firm believers in the Catholic faith. lassing on down the canvon emerge upon a scene somewhat more green and beautiful th!al t lt finn urn left to enter the hills, as this, nart, i nearer the its moisture, and has not suffered so much from drouth.
