J T T j . i . . . - ' - ! . a j i nuuitui a oection of Utah 'The Microbe Dodging "Microbes snatch at us from around every corner" saysEu-gene saysEu-gene Wood in the "November Everybody's," "We can get on the ?g io I side of a dog by pat-ting-bis heHT, and we can please the cat by scratching Iter under the chin. We can tame other Mtiimals-3 by giving them food or by putting -the weight of our band on them. If they won't lie petted or tamed, we can pick up a rock Jand let them have il between the eyes. But when a creature has no tail to wag and nothing to purr with, how can we pet it? How can we, without with-out getting a crick in the neck fcoop2Jfowro far enough to say .Pretty microbe!' to something that is to us as a grain of sand is to Mount Blanc? If it Jcomes to exterminating them, what chance have we with a creature that every Jtwo hours breaks into in-to two peaces, each of whom is ft perfect organism, ready in another an-other two hours to break in two again, and each of these halves to break in an other two hours, and so on and so on, until in three -days the progeny of one single bacterium numbers 4772 billions! Nobody can keep up with that rate of increase. Of all the discoveries made by science it seems to me that the most dis heartening is the discovery of germs." Why be "disheartened" when so many millions of people have lived to a good old age in spite 'of germs innumerable? Keep your system in good order and then let the microbes do their prettiest. As Bernarr Macfadden lias said ' Let me have my system sys-tem i in good order, and then bring on your mic robes boiled, fried, stewed or raw and I will dispose of of them in short order However, it will not do to over load one's sj'stem with microbes. Keep away from the beasts when yoa can, but handling a few of LtliQ in a wbiier-is -only hit of pleasant excitement for one's svstein. An hour's walk in the open air, or a night's sleep with one's head between two wide open widows will clear the system of the varied assortment assort-ment of germ3 that it becomes saturated with during an evening even-ing spent in a crouded, overheated over-heated room, or lecture hall. Now is the time of year when people begin to shut up their bouses and try to live on air that has been breathed over and over ' a ;ain and to suffer from the "colds" that are - the result of breathing impure air. To keep .a house properly ventilated in winter time, and yet not freeze the family to death, is a serious problem one requiring much thought and constant watchfulness watchful-ness on the part of the house mother but the best air obtain able should, be had throughout the house at any cost. Thejbest country air, though wafted di rect from the mountain tops, eoon becomes unfit for. breath- if it is shut up in a room. It becomes stagnant just as water wa-ter does. At the ceiling and . .... 4 floor on opposite sides ot the room, is the best method of ven tilation. Perfect ventilation can be secured by windows and doors alone, but if it is impossible im-possible to have ventilators, then open the window at the top, and a crack at the bottom of the' door won't be bad, only don't Jet the baby sit there. In fact the baby should not be left up-t up-t on the floor, during cold weather, weath-er, unless in motion. There are slill many people who do not know ibst "colds" are caused by breathing impure air, by lack of proper bathing, by lack of exercise, by too warm clothing and by Over eating of improper food, and by not drinking drink-ing enough pure fresh water, and by not eatiug enough fruit. In fact unwise living is the cause of all disease, and WISE LIVING LIV-ING will cure all disease; only you must begin by getting the inside of your" head and heart to working rightlvi The state of one's mind is the first ihing to be attended to. Right think ing will produce correct living c ri t ftm rirnt itrttnff Aiiii ni " 'f, -, v.. "Autumn has clad the hills in the radiance of her belt of gold. So voluptuous a splendor of color is seen nowhere in the languid land of the tropics,! trop-ics,! Autumn is as the twilight.save for the unutterable rudianceof its fleeting hours; in its soul are dreams and memories, as in the hush of the twilight, softly illumined il-lumined with phantacies of a new made moon. Beautiful is the coming of the Autumn, -beautiful and sad. She comes with wan face and her smile is a prophetic flashing of the doom to be. She comes in raiment so radiant that it mocks the glory of the summer splendors; and round her peerless peer-less throat the gods have pluced a necklace of j;isper. And the lilt of remembered songs and the. requiem of airy lutes is in the trailing of her vestments irv the 'dry leaves as she moves ma jestically on into the unknown whiteness beyond.
