SPRING VI LLE, UTAH, THURSDAY, AUG. 13, 1033 PRICE, $1.25' TEIl ANNUM ' TTA , - ii' 1 HK SPRING V IIK "A Liberty of Woman "Woman has been the slave of slaves; and in my judgement it took ages for her to come from the condition of abject slavery up to the institution of marriage, Let me say right here, thai I regard re-gard marriage as the holiest institution in-stitution among men. Without the fireside there is no human advancement; without the family, fami-ly, relation there is no life worth living. Every good government govern-ment is made up of good families. fami-lies. The unit of good government govern-ment is the family, and anything any-thing that tends to destroy the family is perfectly develish and infamous. I believe in marriage and 1 Hold in utter contempt the opinions of those long haired rnen and short haired women - who denounce marriage. 'The grandest ambition that any man can possibly have, is to so live, and so improve himself him-self in heart and brain, as to be worthy of the love of some splen lid woman; and the grandest ambition of any girl is to make Iierself worthy of the love and udoration of some magnificent man. That is my idea. There is no success in life without love and marriage. You had better be the emperor of one loving, tender heart, and she the emp ress of yours, than to be king of the world. The man who has really won the love of one good woman in this world; 1 do not care if he "dies in the ditch a beggar, his life has been a suc cess. "I say it took ages to come from the condition of abject slavery up to the condition of marriage. Ladies, the oma- ments you wear upon your persons per-sons tonight are but the souvenirs souven-irs of your mother's bondage. The chains around your necks, and the bracelets clasped upon your white arms by the thiilled hand of love, have been changed by the wand of civilization from irou to shilling, glittering gold. "But nearly every religion has accounted for all the devilment in this world by the crime of woman. What a gallant thing that is! And if it is true, I had lather live with the woman I love in a world full of trouble, than to live in heaven with nobody no-body but men. "In my judgement, the woman is the equal of the man. She lias all the rights I have and one more, the right to be protected If you are married, try and make the woman you love happy Whoever marries simply -for himself will make a mistake; but whoever loves a woman so well that he says,- 'I will make her happy,' makes no mistake. And so with the woman who shvs, 'I will make him happy.' There is only one way to be happy, and that is to make some body else so, and you cannot be happy by going cross lots; you have got to go the regular turn pike road. If there is any man I detest it is the man who thinks he is the head of a family the man who thinks he is boss! The Q,primitive fellow in Ins dug-out used that word boss: that was one of his favorite expressions Imagine a young man and a young woman courting, walking out in the moonlight, and the nightingale singing a song of pain and love, as though the thorn touched her heart im agine them stopping .there in the moonlight, and saying;"Nov here, let us settle who is boss!" I tell you it is an infamous word and an infuinoiis feeling I abhor ab-hor a man wim is boss, wh is going to govern in his family, and when he vpfaks order all the rest l b still as some mighty migh-ty idea is about to be launched from his mouth. Do you know I dislike this man unspeakably? "I hate above- all things a A Sudden Summons. . At 10.30 Saturday evening Frank L. Thomas, pharmacist at Kelly's Drug Store was seen alive, and Sunday morning he was found in his bed rigid in death. The cause is somewhat problematical It may have been heart failure, the result of accident, or suicide; though, from the surroundings there seemed to be but very little to support the latter theory. The deceased had taken a bath before retiring. The wash bowl was beside the bed, on the floor, with water, soap, sponge and towel near, and the under clothing cloth-ing beside the bed, all indicating indicat-ing that he had s.it upon the sine of the bed while bathing. Near by was a small glass mortar mor-tar and beside it an empty glass. An analysis proved that cocaine had been in the glass, which the deceased had evidently taken for sedative purposes, and may have taken an over dose. lie had complained Saturday evening even-ing of pain in the region of the heart. Mr. Thomas had made many friends among the young people, who knew him as a jovial jolly fellow. His parents live at Braden, Georgia, and Sheriff Harmon and Attorney Page, who were over to investigate investi-gate wired them for orders.' Sherilf Harmon received a telegram tel-egram Tuesday, ordering the the body shipped to Norcross, Gii., and asking lor a bill of en tire expenses. The dispatch was signed J. 1 Philips, the supposed stepfather of the de ceased. Dyseutery Cured Without the Aid of a Doctor 4,I am just up from a hard spell of flux" (dysentery) says Mr. T. A. " Wilson's Whiskey. . Every one who knows me is aware that I am no temperenee crank, no prohibitionist. JBut switching from bill boards in general to this sign in particular, particu-lar, I am going to indulge in'a few words concerning "Wilson's Whiskey; That's All." To begin with, "Wilson's Whiskey" isn't any better than any other man's whiskey; Monongahela, Old Ma- goosalem, Duffy's Green River, or common, plain, every day red liquor, has just as much merit in it as Wilson's.- The .follow who v designed tiiat 3ign you will find it all over the United States didn't tell the truth in the "That's All", not by a darn sight. It's only the beginning. Wilson's Whiskey, like every other man's whiskey, hasn't any "That's All" to it., until we stand by the bier of the departed depart-ed and look at its victim, dead from the effects of heart failure fail-ure we write in the papers because be-cause we feel charitable towards the friends and relatives Instead In-stead wf standing for "That's All" it stands (or headaches and heartaches. It wrecks the victim vic-tim of its constant use morally and financially; it takes the rose from the cheeks of his wife, and semis his children barefoot-ed barefoot-ed to school. It nuts i.orter- houo steak on the table of the man who sells it, and pigs liver on llie table ot the If How who drinks it. It rills the jails with petty criminal and men guilty of graver offenses. It crazes the braiu that nerves the arm to drive the knife to the hilt, or fire the fatal shot. ' I takes away the intellect and makes a driveling drivel-ing idiot of the man who might have been an honor To society and a credit to himself. It causes caus-es a man to forget his vows made at the altar and strikes down the weak woman he has sworu to protect. It is a poison to the system and menace to life. It b'ds the overworked and tired heart hasten and finish its task. that waiting death may claim a victim'sooner. It separates husband hus-band from wife and father from children. It robs women of virtue vir-tue and men of virility. The man who sells it is always half ashamed of his vocation and when ,he goes away from home strives to conceal his business. The man who drinks it hesitates about going home and eats cloves to disguise his breath until un-til the time comes when so lost to sentiment he doesn't care. And they say "That's All." All! Why that legend should be changed. Instead of saying "Thats all" it should read "The Beginning." The' "All" comes when the coroner sits on the remains; re-mains; when the slim cortege trails its way to the Potters Held; when the clods fall on the rough box which encloses what wa3 ,rr a i mil once a man. inais jin And to think " that a sign like that should be permitted to raise its horrid front right in the com mercial center of Zion, where the busy streets meet; where the passengers for all parts of thej city transfer; where visitors de bark to seek hotels. Whiskey gets advertising en ough as it is. Saloon signs con- front us everywhere. Bottles of booze greet the eye on every drug store shelf, and show case. Open doors from which emulate the sounds of revelry and ribald ry tell us at every step "That's All" is a misnomer. Tear down the sign. It is not needed. If it must stay, erect -alongside it another one of. equal proportion, informing the drinker that when he gets to that point where he thinks it is "That's All" for him, there is an institution in the state which will clean him out and give him a new start. Truth, Salt Lake City. Fi'id of Ihtter fijrut "Two physicians had a long and stubborn tight with an abcesson my right lung" writes J. F.' Hughes of iluPont, Ga. "and gave me up.
