Kendall, one the last survivors surviv-ors of the Utah pioneer band, laid down the burden of life, at Mapleton on the 10th inst., after i painful illness ill-ness of two weeks. He was born at Lockpolnt. N. Y., April 19th 1822. md has always lived the life of a jioneer, since attaining his majority For about fifty years he has been a esident of Springville and Mapleton lie arrived in Salt Lake City, July !4th 1847, and next day held the plow hat turned the first furrow, that raised the first cultivated crop iu Utah. Mr. Kendall was a quiet, unostentatious un-ostentatious man, and followed the occupation of farmer. The services for the departed pathfinder were held in the Mapleton meeting house. Mar. 12th, commencing at 1 p. m. There was a large attendance. The singing was appropriate, and -remarks were made by Geo. B. Matson, pioneer; J. E. Hall, F. C. Buyer, J. S, Bover, Bp. Anderson, Wm. P. Fullmer and Bp. Wm. T. Tew, All refered eulogistic-ally eulogistic-ally to the Stirling character arid steady habits of the deceased. His remains were laid in the Evergreen ccmetary. Tenth St., Ilarrisburg, Pa., would sleep but two or three hours in the early part of the. night, which made it very hard tor her parents. The . cause of her death was from a cancer. She underwent under-went an operation on the 5th of January, Jan-uary, and for a time It was thought she would recover. The deceased was 52 years of age, sand was born in England. She. emigrated to Utah thirty-seven years ago. Several sons and daughters survive her. IflNEoFCAftOO IIUSCiERFORD SOCIAL The academic pupils of the Hun-gerford Hun-gerford gave principal Brown and Miss Lou Paden teachers of the High School department a joyful evening last Friday, in Fraternity Hall. The evening was spent in playing games and other social pastimes. Light refreshments, re-freshments, consisting of ice cream, cakes and lemonade were served. The following program, was'inter-sperced was'inter-sperced through the evening: Song, Pearl Oleson. Double quartet, by pupils. ITungerford Times, Stella Whiting. Comicpaper, Claud Strang, - Recitation, Alberta Houtz. Recitation, Pearl Stewart. The Irishman, Evans Houtz. Principal Brown .and Miss Paden i each thanked the pupils heartily for the honor extended them. "The Man from Mexico" was one of the best comedies over played in this City.
